Fairytale: A Novel

Fairytales Can Come True At 5 Stars!!
This was just top notch. Steel does it again!!Camille is the daughter of parents who own a great winery in the Napa Valley who have had a great marriage and life. Then something happens to her mom and later this calculating evil woman named Maxine comes into her father's life and all hell breaks loose. She also has two sons that are awful but I can't tell you more or it will ruin the story for you. This really is kinda like a fairytale story the way Steel set out the story. But I have to say it's a very good one. I couldn't put it down, I was hooked from the beginning until the end. I really came to Feel for Camille. I could feel her hurting and her pain. But I also felt her joy and happiness. When you can feel those things for a character in a story you know its good!I highly highly recommend this book to one and all. Thanks again Danielle Steel for sharing another great one with us your talent has no bounds.~A Faithful Reader

Good, but not her best
I haven’t read a DS novel in many years and maybe I just picked up one that wasn’t up to par. This was a good story, but I felt like much of the story was being told to me rather than experiencing the story. There were several occasions where I just scratched my head and had to ask, really? Camille was just too gullible and she had too many resources to let some of these things happen to her. I wanted more story between Camille and Phillip. Maybe I will give another DS novel a try. I just remember how much I enjoyed her early books like Wunderlust.

California
Danielle Steel is a writer who seems to come back to creating stories in which children find that they have an obligation to preserve and extend the wealth which their deceased parents have created through their hard work. Steel is also excellent in writing about California and marvellous wine production in the Napa Valley. She uses those subjects and brings in another element ,the people who have come and settled in California because they came from generations of wine producers maybe French or Spanish. It is when Steel strays away from California and tries to tackle subjects like homelessness in New York that for me t I feel she has written her story on the basis of research ,She is always a good storyteller . But for California she holds a special affection and her best novels for me are those set in California.

Loved the Idea of the story, but missing some key elements.
Firstly, It came with a torn back cover. It was supposed to be new, so I was disappointed since sometimes I like to sell/turn it in to half price books or something similar. Hopefully that's still doable. On to the book: I liked the overall story line and idea, but the writing on this book was a bit boring. It was like an outline almost. There wasn't any relationship development for what was supposed to be the main character. Literally saved any relationship for her with the old friend until the last chapter/few pages. I wanted more dialogue and less of "They did this, then they did that, and the character feels like...". I was being told how to feel about the characters instead of feeling it from the writing. Then more time was spent on the father and the stepmother relationship, instead of the main character, which was supposed to be about the daughter. I actually liked the characters, but overall just really hard to love the writing on this one. And I love Danielle, especially the book Pegasus.I won't be re-reading this one in the future, but it was fine for a quick read.

Who can resist a novel with the title, 'Fairytale'?
Who can resist a novel with the title,, 'Fairytale'? I purchased this book for a pure escapism experience and it totally delivered. I enjoyed learning s little bit about Napa Valley's Wine Industry and social life and enjoyed that Ms. Steel included some of the local restaurants and venues. I enjoyed all of the characters which were a take on the Cinderella story, but my favorite was Simone who was cast as the protagonist, Camille's 'fairy godmother'. Ms. Steel did a wonderful job of bringing a beloved fairytale into contemporary life, but keeping the theme of a wealthy girl whose evil stepmother and siblings attempt to destroy her and enjoy her inheritance for themselves. However, she has the support of friends and especially a 'Prince Charming' who rescues her for the fairytale happy ending.

Modern Day Cinders
This is a great book full of escapism and easy to read. This tells a tale of a man who absolutely doted and loved his wife and they have a wonderful daughter who learns and loves the vineyard business her parents lovingly created. Sadly her mum becomes ill and passes. Then her father meets a striking woman as he is grieving who he feels heady and almost addicted to and all his sense goes out the window.Camille his daughter sees her for what she is and even his nearest and closet friends. He marries her and life is difficult with her unruly despicable sons and her mother arrives and lives in a little cottage they renovated in the grounds. Luckily for Camille her wicked stepmother’s own mother becomes an ally for Camille who cannot stand her own daughter.Evil StepMum treats Camille with contempt which is ramped up with the untimely passing of her father. But Camille is no walk over and what will happen to the Evil StepMum in time? Will Camille find love? At times predictable but a great piece of escapism.

To trust or not to Trust, that is the question.
I enjoyed the storytelling in this book. The text didn’t jump about but flowed easily and made for a comfortable read.Although I “got on “ with most of the characters I was surprised by how much a couple of them put up with! Taking all that the wicked stepmother dished out.I felt Christophe acted totally out of character when he fell for the charms of the Countess so soon after his adored wife’s death, but I guess it does happen. I felt he would have benefitted from a good talking to, if not a good shake !However, the novel had generally a feel good factor about it, and as I said earlier, the story telling was second to none. All was well by the end!

Not the usual Danielle Steele page turner
I have not finished this book yet but will stick with it. This is not written in Danielle Steele’s usual page turning style. It is very amateurish in the way the story is told, especially up to Joy’s death. It seems like the early years were rushed just to get to the part where Christophe loses his heart to a cunning and devious woman. Type of story where you knew just what was going to happen, but I will continue to the end. It is a shame because I am a great fan of Danielle Steele. Almost feels like it was written by a ghost writer 😥
