I am a satisfied customer of Star Circle
Thank you ---I am entirely satisfied with Star Circle, and Amazon. They were excellent re: filling my order; the omission of a group of pages was an honest happenstance.I wouldn’t mind a replacement from Star Circle, if not; I will repurchase the book after my payment is credited back.Stewart Schurr, spouse of your account customer, CristinaI paid $13.08 plus $5.99 for shipping and handling plus $1.38 tax for the book and now see it on Amazon’s website for $17.62 plus, probably, shipping and handling and tax.

Very good reference point for beginner proofreaders and editors.
Just received this in the post today. I misplaced my last copy so ordered another one. This only took ten days to come to New Zealand. I was waiting for the CD ROM in particular as when the book went missing the CD ROM did also. So now I can get cracking on my course again. Many thanks for the condition the book was in. Only a very minor crease of a block of the pages that can easily be flattened out under another thick book. Cheers, Kathy Stewart

The book arrived in excellent condition and included the CD. I was so happy to see the cd because the listing didn't include it. Very happy with this purchase!!

NOT IMPRESSED
Rarely have I had cause to write a book review where my hand was forced to give less than a 4 star. This, falls into that category. The cons began when I slid in the CD-ROM, thinking it was in the mold of "AutoCrit Editing Wizard" a software that actually guides your hand through the manuscript editing phase. Rather, to my chagrin, it was a series of Microsoft Word Docs replicating what was in the actual text. The book itself is more of a What-editors-do, than a how-to-self-edit book. The actual section that comes close to looking like an edit guide runs from pages 31-86 (Titled: "The 3 C's: What to look for as you work"). This is only 35 pages of a 233 page book. To say every other thing are fillers would be a subjective opinion. But, this is not a book I would recommend. At this juncture, let me remark that my review is in relation to fiction writing. That said, the books I'd recommend for tweaking and polishing ones draft are:1) The Gregg Reference Manual2)Line by Line: How to Edit Your Own Writing by Claire Kehrwald Cook3)Don't Sabotage Your Submission: Save Your Manuscript from Turning Up D.O.A. by Chris Roerden4)Self-Editing for Fiction Writers, Second Edition: How to Edit Yourself Into Print by Renni Browne & Dave King.5)Fiction First Aid: Instant Remedies for Novels, Stories and Scripts by Raymond Obstfeld.

OUTSTANDING INVESTMENT FOR MY FUTURE
In my opinion, the McGraw-Hill Desk Reference for Editors, Writers, and Proofreaders is the book every writer would probably want and every self-publishing author can't live without. The disk has editable/printable Style Sheets, Editorial Check-Off Lists, PDF Quick Reference, Web Editing, and much more. This has been one of the best investments I have ever made for my reference book collection and for my writing career. If you are serious about becoming a serious writer then I highly recommend this book. LM Fields Author & Artist for the Dark Seeds Series

Hardly impressive
This book (e-edition) is hardly impressive for multiple reasons. However, before getting there, let me start with the positive. I have multiple editing books, and they're all scattered around, so when time comes for editing, I am in a race finding the right book. This one, though, puts it all neatly together and I don't need running around anymore. The fact that there are so many references to other editing books (for example The Chicago manual of style et al) confuses me: is it a good or a bad thing? Anyway, at the price the content is good enough for any budding editor, and there's no doubt that I'll recommend it.Now for the two stars. One would expect a company like McGraw-Hill to be up to standard when it comes to their publications and service, but, forget it. I clicked on the link in the book for the CD-content, gave the ISBN and my email, and 2 seconds later I received this email telling me to download the content from x-link, AND if it doesn't work, then I have to follow the instructions on the website. The instructions don't exist. I sent email that kept on coming back to me - undelivered. I did a search, and the title didn't show up. Neither could I find a phone number. What now? Then, right at the beginning is a question: Want to learn more?...please click here. Where? What now, again? McGraw-Hill will never sell me a single book again. It's a pity that a fine writer like K.D. Sullivan now sits with a publication that I could have given much more credit than what I did.

Very dated! Software/computer info 15 years old!
This book was published in 2006. I purchased it because it had favorable reviews online. I realized as I read that half the book covers software and websites that are so dated (15 years) to be a waste of time to peruse. I'm surprised that a company such as McGraw-Hill would fail to update this information at least every five years. The tips for general proofreading, editing, and writing are good, but who is to say that those standards haven't changed in 15 years. The book is being marketed as something that it is no longer useful for. Save your money, and get up-to-date information elsewhere! Shame on you, McGraw-Hill.

Disappointing
As a reference this book is somewhat lacking in detail. It is a quick and superficial overview of the topics which may not be geared to the type of Editing and proofreading you were thinking of. Not really much help in producing one's novel-

Wonderful book. Short sweet and to the point. Perfect for the person required to write a lot for their job. Buying used saved a few pennies; the book was in perfect shape, and delivered a day early. Tres bien.
