The Arcadia goes to war!
The Arcadia dives to the bottom of the sea, to investigate the ancient pyramid and its connection to the giant sphere. The Gaia Coalition ship Oceanus attacks, but Harlock, respecting a fellow warrior, refuses to fight him. The Arcadia visits a secret base for repairs and supplies. On Earth, a new candidate threatens the Prime Minister. His secretary Namino (a Mazone spy) puzzles over Harlock's motivations. On the Arcadia, Harlock gives Tadashi a special assignment, but privately, he worries about his young daughter Mayu, who is torn between Harlock's freedom and his promised return. Kei shows Tadashi a secret from Harlock's past. The Arcadia sets out alone to confront the approaching Mazone fleet. Miime, feeling neglected, reaches out to the crew for companionship. A Mazone ambassador issues a declaration of war. And all the while, Harlock struggles with being a "true man."

A Gripping Retelling of an Iconic Character
I am pretty much only familiar with Captain Harlock from the anime series, so I don't know how close this new series is to the original, in terms of details. However, the introspective tone mixed with fast-paced action and existential drama feel very much in keeping with the Harlock I know and love. The art style evokes creator/writer/original manga artist Leiji Matsumoto's work while feeling fresh and contemporary. The story continues to be exciting and action-packed, but not at the expense of the characters. While I am looking forward to the new translation of Matsumoto's original Harlock manga, which has just been released, I continue to look forward to this new series as well.
