My new furniture recommends a non-silicone water-based furniture cleaner. Is this water-based, or does this cleaner meet that requirement?

It states on the can that it is Silicone Free with a unique blend of natural oils. Nowhere does it state that it is water based. It meets the none silicone requirement but doubt the water based one..

What is the shelf life on this? I want to stock up and buy a bunch of cans, do they expire?

I don't know. There's no expiration date on the can. My guess is that they'd be good for several years. I suggest writing to the manufacturer, Valspar; the address in Michigan is on the can. 4999 - 36th Street, SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512. Or better, call them at 800-822-7359. Hope this helps.

Is this product good for cleaning and polishing high end guitars, mandolins, violins, and so on? Is it safe for the instruments?

Guardsman Polish is a wonderful product that I've used on fine wood furniture for 25 years. My understanding is that it has no silicone. I've never used it on musical instruments, but I wouldn't be afraid to use it. Perhaps you cancan try it on an inconspicuous spot on an instrument. Remember to spray the polish on a soft cloth to apply and buff with another soft dry cloth. (It is better not to spray directly on the surface.)

I own several antique pieces that are waxed and buffed once a year. Can this product be safely used on them? Pledge, I know, destroys waxed surfaces.

Guardsman is what I use on my antique furniture. Doesn't present a high shine but there is no build up.
