Made me nervous but I went ahead and opened a bottle and am pleased to say it smells
If you’re a Danncy regular this is it! When my bottles came in the label read pure vanilla extract which is different from the picture of just pure vanilla. Made me nervous but I went ahead and opened a bottle and am pleased to say it smells, cooks, and tastes just the same as my other bottles that came from Mexico. Yes, as other reviews stated the bottles are terribly flimsy (they always have been) but i quit keeping them in bottles a long time ago. I get the glass olive oil bottles from home goods and use them to hold my vanilla. They were packaged well and arrived quickly.I’ve been a Danncy vanilla user for 30 years. It’s the only vanilla my great grandmother, grandmother, and mother have used. My cousin was a missionary in Mexico and she’d bring us bottles when she’d visit. Several years ago my dad was offered “pure Mexican vanilla” from a customer for work and it was awful. I said some of the exact same things some reviewers said about Danncy while there were others who swore it was the best. I say this to point out I think it just depends on which brand you’re use to. If you’ve always been a Danncy user then it will taste like home. If you’ve used something different it probably won’t. Just my two cents.

Doesn't smell or taste real
Sadly, these were a disappointment. The cost was too good to pass up, but while I have done everything from trying fake vanilla (vanilin) to making my own extract from Madagascar and or Tahitian blends of vanilla beans, this was quite a letdown. Listed in the description as pure vanilla extract, and the reviews said it was great, it smells like a mix of almond extract and fake vanilla. I cannot smell anything that smells genuine. The taste is watery to fake also. It's not bad in a cake or something similar when you just want a hint of vanilla, but in something like whipped cream or anything stronger, it takes away from the real. And the ingredients on the bottles do not agree with the description. It lists the ingredients as including real and artificial flavors. Not sure how that works out to 'pure vanilla extract', but this is not for me.

Best Mexican Vanilla ever!
Oh how I love this stuff! It is my secret ingredient for all my baked goods. I brown butter and use this vanilla in my pecan pie and people rave over it! As a former Music Minister's wife we would have an evening service where all the ministers and their wives would provide cookies and drinks and have a pick your favorite Christmas carol for everyone to sing. It was our way of giving back to the church family. Every year I made the hot chocolate and mulled cider and this vanilla in the hot cocoa had everyone buzzing about what was in it to make it so special. I used a recipe, "Creamy Christmas Eve Crockpot Hot Chocolate" that makes the best hot chocolate ever and when you add this vanilla it gives it a very subtle background taste of perhaps cinnamon or something that you can't quite put your finger on but oh my, sooooo good!! There was so much conversation about it, guesses and compliments every year and the crockpot was tilted to get the last drop and folks still wanting more even though I would double or triple the recipe. Truly, if your recipe calls for vanilla, this is the one to use, it will leave your family and friends wanting more, just makes your baked goods so addictive. I ordered these for bottles and gave them to friends along with the hot chocolate recipe this year and it was a huge hit! Great gift and a great price, received many comments from those friends about how much they were loving using this wonderful vanilla in their Christmas baking. Oh and if you want extra special homemade whipping cream, which by the way is super easy, add some of this vanilla and put a little in your pie crust too, it will for sure up the flavor. I usually got this from a friend that goes to Mexico to see family but in the last few years that hasn't happened so I was thrilled to find the exact same thing here on Facebook. As you can tell, I LOVE my Mexican vanilla and so does everyone lucky enough to have a taste of whatever I make with this in it.

This is vanilla?
I drink a cup of coffee every morning and have added a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla for years. The price has skyrocketed in recent years and I stopped being able to afford the McC brand years ago. So I have tried various Mexican brands and some are quite good...However, I foolishly ordered the four bottle deal of this Danncy brand and regret it now.It has a strange smell and taste. Not bad, but not vanilla. Licking the spoon it has a vague vanilla taste with mostly something else. And it clashes BADLY with the coffee.I also like to put a few drops in my zero coke but again, the taste was not what I had been used to.To test, I used the last drops in a bottle from the US national brand McC in a cup of coffee and the same amount of Danncy Dark Pure Vanilla in a second cup from the same pot/batch to compare taste. It's definitely not as good.I'm very disappointed.

Imposter?
I have been using this vanilla for years as did my mom before me. Unfortunately, I just used the one purchased on Amazon and it isn't even close to what my mom and I use. If you have never used this type vanilla it's hard to explain the unique taste and smell. When I first opened the box these were shipped in I could smell the wonderful scent and didn't think twice about it and put it in the cupboard. Well imagine my disappointment when I opened the bottle purchased on Amazon and the only way I can think to describe it is a watered down version of the vanilla. When you use the actual "good" vanilla you have to be very careful in measuring it because even just a little bit too much will overpower your recipe. However, with this Amazon purchased vanilla have used a boat load of it and it hardly has any flavor at all! Just to describe a little more I make an amazing 3 ingredient cheesecake that uses just 1 teaspoon of this brand of vanilla, sugar, and creamcheese. Upon using the Amazon vanilla the cheesecake was blah so I tried 3x the amount on next cheesecake and nothing! I don't know what it is because I compared lables and didn't see a difference, but this is not even close to what I normally buy elsewhere.
