What's the width of the idler? The picture above says 1.8 inches which clearly is wrong, that would make the width almost as long as the diameter

yes it does, this is just like the one I replaced. although, before I replaced it, I put a little grease on the shaft. works like new!

No it did not. I ended up buying the part that was already attached to the metal bracket. That way I didn't have to worry about whether the pully would fit over the existing bracket. Worked like a charm!

this part is generic to whirlpool dryer with a rotating tumbler. this part is not an exact match to the original but the size is the same so it worked on my dryer and it fixed the problem..the best way to find out is to open the access panel on your dryer and use a flash light to see what yours look like. that's what I did.
