I’m in cosmetology school and this is the worst doll I’ve ever bought. Do not buy unless you only plan on doing ONLY braids.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to braid hair. Unfortunately, I’m so bad at it currently that I have no live participants who are willing to volunteer their head. That’s where this mannequin head comes in. She’s perfect. She arrives extremely well-packaged, with layers of plastic and protective bubble wrap to keep her from shifting in transit. Within the box you’ll also receive a wide-toothed comb and clamp/mount included so that you can set her up on the edge of a counter or table. She has long flowing hair, and while there’s just a tiny bit of initial shedding, this makes her more realistic. The hair is synthetic, but it feels quite natural. Her hair can be heat-styled at a very low heat, but since I’m just here to practice with braids/styles, I won’t be using her with any hot tools. She’s a light to medium weight… definitely not heavy. And while she’s a good size, she’s not huge, which makes her very easy to transport. This is a fantastic mannequin for someone entering cosmetology school, or if you’re like me, it’s a great piece to have around in order to practice braids and styles. And for this price, she’s a great affordable option.

This is the first cosmetology mannequin head that we've owned. I got this for my daughter (age 7.5) because she became enamored with a similar one at an indoor play place. She has been playing with this for hours and loves it. It comes with a comb, fake eyelashes, and a little stand that you can clamp onto something (we picked a stool). However, there were no instructions for how to use the stand or how to care for the styling head. I am guessing that you cannot wash or use heat products on this head. My daughter likes to comb, brush, and style the hair. I found braiding to be easy to do. The only thing is WOW does it shed. My daughter is not being rough with it and I showed her how to start at the bottom of the hair and comb/brush up so that you're not pulling on any knots. Do all styling heads shed so much?? Also, the hair on the top of the head is very thin. I'm not sure if that is typical, but this is unlike the ones we used at the indoor play place. Still, I think this was much better for her than a doll styling head because she can do much more with it.

This mannequin head looks exactly like the picture. As soon as you open it though it starts outgassing the most horrendous smell. The smell comes from the plastic and not the hair. I am still airing out my mannequin head with the hope that it will smell better. If it was not for the smell it would be perfect for someone to learn how to do braids or to simply play with. I am not sure it is safe for children with this smell.

This mannequin head is a fantastic value at $19.99 at the time of this review. It's standard sized with very long straight blond hair. The hair is synthetic but it's good enough quality to do braids and other hair styles. I probably won't be using heat tools on this just to be safe. I really need practice braiding and this head is perfect for that. I've combed the hair quite a bit with a wide-tooth comb and there was a little shedding but no more than I expected. The hair remains soft too, so it seems to be able to withstand a good amount of handling without causing the hair to become tangled or damaged. For what it is intended, this is a great choice for a practice head. Very affordable and well-made.

This is just what it says. An inexpensive head, with hair you can practice braiding on. The head comes with it's own stand, most of the time those cost half the price on their own, let alone getting a little comb and some fun lashes you can put on the head for fun. I repainted the face a little just for fun too! The hair is long enough to do lots of styles, however, you might want to thin the ends a little to make the braiding a little easier, to mimic natural hair. Heck even as a hat stand or headphones stand, at this price, she's a great deal. Keep in mind this is not a cosmetology manikin, to do color and heat styling on, It's synthetic hair to practice braiding on. I think she's lots of fun!
