Does not work for charging. Don't buy!!
There was at least one review that said this doesn't work and I wish I listened to them. My lights recently went out for 8-12 hours and I bought this when they were out thinking it could be a while before they came back on. It has a flash light and that works great. For some reason though, it has a red backup light on at all times when not in use, which means it's draining the batteries when it's not being used. I was really hoping the review was wrong, but they so got it right. Save your money look for a better product.

Great as a back up phone charger.
I purchased 3, gifted 2 for use during the next power outage.

Adequate
There are times you're not near a wall charger or don't have a USB cable handy (camping?), and 4 AA battles should be more than adequate to charge or run a product that doesn't have its own power source. For instance, I have a neck wrap that needs a power bank. This portable charger feels pretty flimsy, but it's adequate. It does have a little flashlight, and a switch to go back and forth from the light to the USB connection (only one USB connection). The center position on the switch turns it off, but you have to be very careful with it because it's so tiny. I think I'll remove the batteries, anyway, when not in use.

DO NOT install batteries until you need them
I will keep the product but I wanted to warn people -- DO NOT put batteries in this unit until you need them. I put batteries in these units to use for "later" and then when I needed it -- the batteries were dead.It discharges the batteries while sitting doing nothing.I will keep them because it would be nice to be able to charge phones with batteries that happen to be laying around the house -- but it would sure be nice if it didn't drain the batteries just sitting on the shelf.

It works
This portable charger is very easy to use. Much needed in a power outage.

This product does not work
It does not charge at all the only thing that works is the light. It’s not worth the hassle of returning it. I took pictures showing that my portable internet box does not come on or show that it is charging. I even tried two different cords. Don’t waste your time, buy something cheap else

Works as intended
Remember to also have decent quality AA batteries on hand.
