Quality With Exceptional Cooling/Heating Rating - 12,000 BTU SACC Rating!
UPDATED The ARC-1230WNH 14,000 (12,000 BTU SACC) is a beast! One of the most efficient and quiet portable units on the market. Has an excellent remote and is also WiFi enabled with an app that senses when you leave or return to your home. Use this feature to automatically setback the Heat when you leave and automatically increase the Heat when you return. You set the distance (I set mine to 10 miles). Works for Cooling too by lowering the temperature when you cross the set threshold and returns to normal cooling temperature when returning home. A real hands-free cost savings tool. Unit is easy to install and setup. Very quiet and the built quality is second to none! I couldn't be happier. In all aspects a great design with easy-to-use features in a well-engineered compact package. If I dare say, the Rolls Royce of portable AC/Heater units. (I am not affiliated with Whynter!!!! I just know quality when I see it.) UPDATE - ONE WEEK LATER I live where winters reach -10 F. I have natural gas forced air heating with the furnace in the basement. Because the Whynter Arc-1230WNH input temperature range for heating is above freezing using the window air input in sub-freezing temperatures doesn’t allow the heat pump to operate efficiently. However, my basement, no matter how cold outside doesn’t fall below 50 F which is within the operational range of a heat pump. To overcome this input temperature limitation, I dump the unit’s exhaust air into my basement using one of my air return wall registers. I modified a return register to accept a 5.9” hose coupling. I purchased a separate 5.9” inch exhaust hose from Amazon (Portable Air Conditioner Hose 5.9 Inch Diameter, AC Hose Exhaust Vent up to 80 Inches) and connected exhaust outlet to my new register coupling creating a one hose system with the input air using the units room input duct. I also purchased an insulation hose cover. Between the insulation cover and exhaust duct I ran two drain lines, one for the heat pump and the other for the unit drain. At the register coupling I drilled two 7/8” holes to accept the water drain lines which are routed to the basement drain. This serves two purposes 1) allows continuous drain of the heat pump and 2) eliminates the “vacuum effect” of a “one hose” system as the replacement home air is retrieved from the furnace output wall registers in the same volume the exhaust air is entering the basement through the return register. This modification allows my furnace to remain operational during extreme cold conditions when the Whynter isn’t quite capable of heating my home but still allows furnace use during conditions that often tasked my furnace to adequately heat my home. On these occasions I plan on furnace use to bring the house temperature to 70 F and then turn it off and use the Whynter to maintain the temperature. My hope is to save money by minimizing natural gas usage and believe the electric usage of the Whynter will be far less than that required for furnace fan’s operation. My natural gas bill during winter runs around $120-160/month. With the forecast rate increases I hate to hazard a guess this winter's bill but double that amount seems reasonable. I believe I’ll save the Whynters purchase price just from lowered natural gas use this winter. Changing the subject, a feature I really like is the remote control has an iSense button that uses the temperature sensor located inside the remote to control the operation of the unit as long as you're within 25 feet of the unit. Finally, I’m so impressed with the 1230WNH I purchase a second unit!

HVAC technician opinion
I have had my unit for a couple days now and I love it. I am a commercial HVAC technician that works on hvac units for a living and could not recommend a better unit for someone that does not have central air. I live in a apartment that has wall heaters but no air conditioning. This unit is quiet and most importantly very accurate when it comes to its temperature sensor (which other units lack). I have noticed that the inverter on the unit works really well at controlling the space temperature without short cycling which is very important when it comes to the longevity of the unit. I have been using the the unit for heat at night, and while when it does struggle to put heat out when outside temperatures drop below 40 degrees, this is easily fixed by putting the unit to a lower fan speed to allow the air to reject more heat. During the day is puts out nice consistent cool air where my house does not get too cold. The main issues I have had with other units is that they will run in cool but not do a good job at maintaining the temperature, mainly due to the fact that the unit does not have the dual hose design that uses your already conditioned air and pushea it outside. This means your space will be in a negative pressure and it will pull in the cold or hot air and push out using conditioned air causing the unit to consistently short cycle in cooling and you never feeling comfortable. Overall I feel like changes can be made to the software to allow for heat to work better at colder temperatures but the unit works great in cooling. If I notice any issue I will update my review but as of now this is the best set it and forget it unit i have had.

Best Portable Heat Pump
The 14k BTU heat pump is the best. The inverter compressor makes all the difference. Super quiet while running. Easy modulate start up makes it not have loud compressor start up. Heating output is over 110F. Home App is easy to use and works great with smart homes devices. R-32 refrigerant is efficient at 40F ambient outdoor temp. Continues fan mode is adjustable 1-100% and ultra quiet. Easy to set up. Highly recommend this inverter heat pump! System won't work when ambient temp drops too low. App has a diagnostic check setting that will tell you why heat pump isn't working. When it's low 30F's my heat pump shuts off and App says cold air protection. I then use electric space heater at that point. Drainage: system has built in condensate pump. I chose not to use internal pump, I installed vynal tube at bottom drain plug and use gravity drain to my own condensate pump.

Works great, once installed...
It cools my bedroom great, is MUCH quieter than my last one. The nethome plus app controls is well. It gets four stars instead of 5 because the ventilation setup was a nightmare for me. The dual hose was the biggest issue, it's relatively heavy and manipulating it for my weird bedroom setup was VERY difficult. The window I have is about 2.5 ft wide, the slide for the hose was incompatible (as a slide). With how well the device works with its noise level I would likely never get this model again instead find something very similar from Whynter but with twin hoses instead of a dual hose.

Awesome Unit!
I was shopping for an actual inverter technology portable AC for my home office due to the fact ath even with the Central AC running, my room gets very hot and uncomfortable to work in. I was waiting for one with inverter tech. because the regular ones use a lot of power to operate, THIS THING IS just as good as a mini split, I have measured the amount of power my house draws when this thing is running and it is below or just about 1kwh THE HOUSE!! I have the 14btu one and WOW the double hose design keeps all the heat it produces out of the house and it cools the room in record time to the point it actually shuts off completely and turns itself back on when the room get warm above the set temp of 76. it is extremely quiet in the low fan speed and I am totally happy with it thus far. The only thing I can say i was a bit dissapointed with was the window panels, they are very thin and not super high quality, but my plan is to build my own sturdy one with wood and insulation. but for now this does the job just fine... I just need something thicker with insulation to minimize outside noise. so far super happy with it. LOVE the app and the fact you can control it via amazon devices.

Exceptional All-Season Comfort!
The Whynter Inverter Portable Air Conditioner/Heater is an absolute game-changer! This AC/Heater has exceeded my expectations in every way. First and foremost, its cooling and heating capabilities are impressive. During the summer months, it quickly brings down the temperature to a comfortable level, making my living space refreshing. Likewise, in the colder evenings, it efficiently heats up the room, providing cozy warmth automatically, basically making the room climate controlled. One of the standout features is its inverter technology, which ensures energy efficiency and quieter operation. I was pleasantly surprised by how silent it is, allowing me to enjoy a peaceful environment without the constant hum typical of many other units. The unit is also incredibly user-friendly. It's Bluetooth capable, and the accompanying app makes controlling the settings a breeze from anywhere. The remote control and intuitive interface add to the ease of use, and the built-in timer is a convenient feature for scheduling its operation according to my daily routine. Additionally, its portability means I can move it from room to room with ease, ensuring comfort throughout my entire home. You may want a couple different window kits if you plan to move to different locations often. The design is sleek and modern, fitting seamlessly into many different types of room décor. It's also equipped with an excellent filtration system that improves air quality, which is a significant bonus. Overall, the Whynter Inverter Portable Air Conditioner/Heater delivers on all fronts—performance, efficiency, and convenience. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable, all-season climate control solution!

First one defective (refurb), 2nd doesn't dehumidify
This YUUUUGE "portable" air conditioner does cool better than my old 10K window unit, it's quieter, & is supposed to use a lot less energy doing more. The first one (a refurbished model) didn't cool at all & had an error code that Whynter said was related to the AC compressor and irreparable. They sent me a new one without having me ship the old one back. With it set on dehumidify, the humidity in my bedroom goes UP, just like the old LG window unit. It does the same thing on cool. The humidity never gets above 60% in the rest of my house, but it stays in the low 60s in my bedroom with the AC on dehumidify AND a standalone dehumidifier going! I don't know WHAT is going on with that! Condensate is now building up on the swing louver door. I'm going to call to ask about the condensate. Their service was very prompt about addressing the issue with the first one. Edit: the "follow the remote" temperature setting is inaccurate. It will vary up to 6-8°F from the set temp. I had to buy a higher capacity dehumidifier, which pumps heat into the room that I'm trying to cool to 68°. A hose came loose inside the unit & was leaking water on the floor out of warranty, but they quickly provided me a diagram to repair it myself. Edit 1-24-26 - the heat pump runs CONTINUOUSLY! I have TWO high output ultrasonic humidifiers going in my bedroom, but the humidity is 28% because of the STUPIDITY of running the heat CONSTANTLY instead of heating the room up to the set-point & then turning OFF for a while! It also sprung another leak over the summer, & I had to dismantle it AGAIN to diagnose it, but the upper tray was overflowing from all the Southern humidity during the summer, & it has a SEPARATE drain hose connection that's gravity drain. WHY didn't they pipe it down to the BOTTOM where the drain pump is?! This thing has THREE SEPARATE DRAIN CONNECTIONS!

Excellent design and efficient
I purchased a Whynter ARC-1230WNH Inverter Portable Air conditioner from Amazon, with heater, and it arrived in great condition. Previously I had purchased two LG units from a home supply dealer; both of which came damaged. The unit is simple to install and opperate, well made, and works great cooling our two bedroom,1,200 sq. ft. ranch house. It is very quiet, and with the newer hose in hose design it is very efficient because of that modification to portable units. Previous designs used a single hose to supply air, and to exhaust the hot air as well. The hot exhaust air caused the incoming air to increase in temperature before entering the compressor, which obviously reduced efficiency. I also sought a window on the North side of the home, out of direct sunlight. I was considering a single mini-split system, which after installation would cost approximately $7K, and got cool air with this unit for $550.00. We live in the Mtns. of NH, so only need the A/C for a few weeks in the summer, but it has been in the 90's and humid, so this is a great option.
