Heater to give great pleasure on a nasty cold day and make you feel warm without question!
Absolutely perfect but you need a very long Philips screwdriver to screw legs on. They are extremely difficult to reach and a pair of strong hands are necessary. Afterwards you will find this heater delightful, quiet, beautiful flame pattern. I have an older model with a lousy switch for temperature control that goes on & off about 5 times before it actually turns off the heat. This one has a much better electronic switch that works the way it should. I am running it all day in a large family room in a cold time in Central West Florida. It is heating at the 1500 or high watt lever for about 30 minutes, then turned down to 1000 and it keeps my large area at about 70 degrees and is off more than on. I find this device well made, beautiful looking. It also has open side large vents and the fire looks absolutely real with flams from anywhere! The fire itself is as bright as you could want it, and is also adjustable with a high quality control like the thermostat uses. The switches light up so you know which mode is on and the device that scrolls for flame is quiet and unheard with no squeaking or rolling sounds. It is almost impossible to hear the fan blowing and is extremely quiet even only 6 feet away. This will be a good heater for the large area I use daily and the older one will be places in the master bedroom. I also told my boss at work and he will buy 2 of these; one for his office and 1 for mine. At 36 degrees outside you will never know it in this home and I am very happy with Duraflame design. They are a good company and their subsidiary follows there rules perfectly. This is a great unit. Case closed! Ray C

Built to last
Great product, on low... It's still really toasty wherever you're heating & doesn't make the electric bill skyrocket. Built to last, reasonably priced, easy to assemble, they send you the tools. Quiet

Very good after some tinkering.
This unit arrived very quickly, ahead of schedule. Putting it together was very simple, just attach the door handle and the four legs. The body of it is thin metal, the legs are plastic. I think it would have been much nicer with metal legs. Yes, the screws can be a little bit difficult to get started, but it's not the hugely impossible job some reviews would have you believe. I think I had the whole thing done in less than 15 minutes. Plugged in and heating I was pleased that it did not have a big "first burn" smell. However it did have a loud scraping sound, a very annoying sticks on a sidewalk, bad plastic bearing sort of sound that was just intolerable. I was afraid something was very wrong with it, but with some investigating discovered that the thin tin foil fins that create the flickering fire illusion are all spaced on a long thin shaft. As the shaft rotates, some of the fins scrape across the metal housing of the control panel, making that nasty sound. I was able to remove the back of the unit, and then a metal plate and watch to see which fins were scraping, then allow them to rotate to the top and quickly shut the unit off. Then I clipped the fins shorter with a pair of scissors so that they cleared the metal housing. It took a long time of watching and listening and clipping, but I eventually got all of them that had been making that horrible sound. Still an easier fix than trying to pack it up and ship it back and I'm very happy with it now. It heats my small home office very quickly and creates a cozy atmosphere so I almost forget I'm working. Pros - Thermostat with adjustable levels. Control for adjusting flame speed and color. Top stays cool/ Fan forced heat quickly warms up the room, much better than oil filled radiator style. Quiet operation, once I clipped the fins. The motor has a small burbling sound sometimes, but it's hardly noticeable. The heating fan is quiet. This is only feet away from my desk but doesn't interfere with phone calls. Controls are hidden behind the door. No big stickers or logos to take away from the pretend fireplace effect. Side screens allow view of the fire from three sides. Fire effect can be used without the heater for those warmer days when you just want the display. Cons - No remote control. Seriously, such a nice unit, you could have added a remote control to make it even better! Plastic legs. I saw a picture from another brand where the legs had actually melted which is kind of scary. The whole fins scraping on metal deal. The engineers could have designed that a lot better. Shipped in retail box, so not only does everyone see what got left on your porch, it's not given any added protection. Luckily the glass on mine did not break in transit. Can't run the heater without the fire effect. So if you want this for a bedroom be aware the light will be on and flickering the whole time. Four stars for lack of remote control and original noise problem.

Durafame 3D Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplace

Low quality, doesn't last more than a season
Bought less than 1 year ago and it already quit. It is not run constantly either. We usually turn it on for night time use in bedroom in winter months and turn it off in morning. Two days ago I entered bedroom and something smelled odd. I thought it was heater which had only been run about 3 times this winter. So I shut if off since night temps were not going too low. Last night I went to turn it on and the 1500 watt choice would not turn on no matter how high I adjusted the temp. The flicker flame wasn't working either. My only choice left for heat was the 1000 watt button. Real bummer. Only 1 winter season of use and it's done. I though DuraFlame was better than this!!

Highly recommend!
We’ve had this for five years and look forward to turning it on every winter. Runs quietly and creates the perfect cozy spot - loved by cats, kids, and adults. Gives off a nice ambience from the lights. Super happy with it!

Puts out great heat which is the point of the purchase
My updated review for this heater: This Duraflame heater stopped working SIX DAYS after the return window closed. One of the toggle switches stopped working, it will not stay "toggled" and just flops back off. I am certainly not happy about this development since this replaced a heater that sprung its toggle switch and stopped working.. I deliberately picked Duraflame thinking it is an established company, so the quality would be better than a heater made in China. Now I have to call the company to deal with it. There is a one year warrantly. I still have the box, but last week I threw out the syrafoam pieces, so that creates a problem boxing it up. I am so disappointed and I will update again once I speak to Duraflame on how to deal with this problem. My first review for this heater when it arrived: First the pros, it puts out a nice bank of heat which warms up a cold area quickly. This is what I needed for the far end of a long room that is always several degrees cooler than the other end where the house furnace blows warm air. So success! Now for the cons, the flames look great from the front glass door. I am not as thrilled with the view from the sides towards the back wall, not as realistic looking as the view from the front. This is my fourth free standing electric fireplace heater and so I am becoming a pro at attaching the legs to these units. I have two Duraflame stoves, the one before this is a larger model Duraflame, and two others made in China. The power plugs on the ones made in China get hot with use, but the other two plugs do not. It is too bad that these companies cannot come up with a shipping box that protects the legs in shipment. However, having seen the mangled boxes than are delivered at times makes me realize that it would be difficult to have the legs attached before shipping without snapping off. Sadly, the legs for this Duraflame were quite difficult to attach due to where the screws need to be attached to the unit. I have very small hands with slim fingers and yet I had to use needle nose pliers to put the back screw (of the three screws needed for each leg) into the hole in order to be tightened. I have a ratchet type phillips screw driver that works with my drill bits, but the handle of this screw driver was too thick to be used to tighten the screws, so I had to use a regular phillips screw driver for two of the screws. It was a pain to attach the legs, but once it is done that is it. The screw that attaches the door handle kept clinging to the door magnets, so I had to use needle nose pliers to insert that screw into the screw hole, too. That recessed screw hole is difficult to get to in order to position the screw in the hole, but again once it is done that part is over. All in all it is a great stove once the legs and door handle are installed. I took one star off due to the difficulty encountered once I opened the box. My hope is that this electric heater lasts, my first one (made in China) was great until a toggle switch sprung making it impossible to turn on. That one is waiting until I find a repair person who can replace the toggle switch because the realistic flames are great on it despite where it was made.

Quite, and efficient!
Had a cheaper electric fire place before in my dinning room, after a few months it became noisy and didn't quite do the job even on full heat. The Duraflame will heat my open dinning room even on low setting. The infrared quartz heat is very enjoyable, soothing and quiet. Very glad I made this purchase! You will need a 6" Phillips screw driver to put the legs on. If you don't have one, order one. After that you will enjoy this, garrateed!

Cool looking little stove
We bought this for my 12 year olds room, it is really cold in the winter. He loves it and sometimes in the summer he just runs the lights because he thinks they look so cool.

After just three months, not functioning well
The fireplace effect has stopped working. Probably just needs a new bulb, but after just over three months of use, not being used all the time? When heat is turned on with lower element, blows coolish air. With high element still gives off heat. Have been heating with a quartz heater instead, cost $24.99 on sale and is doing a better job. This heater was a disappointment.
