ALTRAMen's Lone Peak 8 Trail Running Shoe

Love the wide toe box
Best running shoes I’ve owned. These are exactly what I was looking for - zero drop and wide toe box. Super comfortable.

Altra...still the best trail running shoe on the market
I picked up running 2.5 years ago and ever since I put on a pair of Altra shoes I have not been able to use any other. Their trail shoes are durable, last 150-200 miles, and end up being great 'walking shoes' after their running useful life. Your toes and feet will thank you for making the change to a larger toe box and zero drop!

Amazingly comfortable shoes for foot pain.
These are the greatest athletic shoes; they are worth every penny. I suffer with plantar fasciitis, and these shoes have given me a lot more comfort than any other pair I own. They are very durable, lightweight , and the toe box is nice and wide. Order the yellow color if you want compliments.

Mama always said you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes
Right out of the box, these are easily the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. If they hold up over time, I will just buy another of these when I need shoes again. The wide toe box and materials just feel great. The pair I got were made in Vietnam, which is neat.

Toebox was too wide
I thought these were half size too big. The insoles that I use in Altra did not completely feel the toebox. There was a gap beside the big toe. I returned them

2 oz lighter than Altra LP4
Just did my first 4.5 miles treadmill walking in these. Bought them to free up my older Lone Peak 4s for trail walking. The older ones are worn but still useable.First off they at 2 oz lower weight which might seem trivial but that is a 10% weight reduction. The LP 8s are 1lb 4oz the old 4s are 1lb 6oz. The ultralighters will like that. My only concern is how was that weight saved? The rock protection is still there according to marketing but it's no longer advertised as a "rock plate" so maybe they got some savings there??Anyway, that big beautiful toebox is still there as is the zero rise. The shoes were extremely comfortable right out of the box. Zero hotspots after first 4.5 miles in them while wearing "Darn Tough" socks. The shoes have obviously been redesigned but much of it is superficial, I do not see any major tweaks to sole, uppers, etc. The rock protection is a question mark but won't be able to evaluate that until I get on trail at some point. Decent rock protection is critical for trail hiking IMO so I assume it is properly implemented in these shoes.Anyway, no shoe is perfect, so four stars. Will update after first couple of hundred miles.

A year round wear.
A very well designed shoe. I’m never going back to New Balance again. This shoe grips the ground amazingly well, lots of room in the toe box, and can be worn year round. I wear these in lieu of clunky boots frequently. Buy them!

My Go To for Backpacking
I give 5 stars to products that meet or exceed my expectations. These do. I bought them on a Friday and the following day went for a 3 night backpack of the TCT on Catalina. This is a ridge following trail with lots of rock and ups and downs. These trail shoes performed extremely well. They are very close to zero drop, but not quite. They breath well, have excellent grip uphill and downhill. I usually take a 12 in trail shoes but ordered a 12.5 because I owned the original Lone Peaks which proved too short in my regular size. The reason: I have a Morton toe (longer middle toe than the rest). If you are looking for shoes with a broad toe box that lets your toes spread out, this is the pair. If you are looking for some volume above you toes, this is the pair. If you are looking for a shoe with a soft but tight fitting heel counter, this the pair. Very Lightweight. Great Backpacking trail shoes.
