Over many centuries, thousands have undertaken the pilgrimage on the old route through Northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela, and some have written books about it. Hape Kerkeling, a well-known contemporary German comedian, has written a unique book in the form of a diary, sharing personal insights and witty observations as he encounters many fellow pilgrims with all their different fates and foibles, and even forms close friendships with some. Weaving selected personal memories together with tentative answers to central spiritual questions, and sharing mundane adventures and complex reflections about himself, God and the world, he gives the reader the pleasure and benefit of participating in the process of his own development as a complex human being.

Das Buch hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ich kannte Hape Kerkeling vom Fernsehen und als ich hoerte, dass er ein Buch geschrieben hat, wollte ich es unbedingt lesen.

Ein eher langweiliges Buch. Nach der Hälfte habe ich damit aufgehört.

A wonderful book. Once started reading I couldn't put it down. I am looking forward to all of Hape's books.

Als " ich bin dann mal weg" rauskam, hab ich das Buch sehr gerne gelesen und immer wieder davon gesponnen, wie es denn wäre sich mal ne Auszeit zu nehmen und mir über zehn Jahre geschworen diesen Weg mal zu gehen. Immer wieder vor sich her geschoben, kam irgendwann mal die Sinnkrise und dann gings auf diesen knapp 800 km langen Weg. Viele Eindrücke aus dem Buch könnte ich teilen, hab Orte auf der Reise wiedererkannt, Bekanntschaft mit lieben , aber auch schrägen Typen gemacht, .... also alles wie beschrieben. Ähnlich wie Hape habe einfache Hotels den Albergues vorgezogen, aber mir auch ab und an diese Erfahrungen gegönnt. Mittlerweile 2 mal gelaufen , nehme ich mir immer mal von Zeit zu Zeit das Buch wieder zur Hand um die eigenen Erlebnisse mit Schmunzeln wieder in das Gedächtnis zu bringen. Vieles im Buch finde ich aus der Sicht eines zu sich selbst Finden wollenden Hobbypilgers treffend beschrieben auch wenn die Hardcorepilger Hapes Erlebnisse aufgrund Busfahrten, Hotelbesuchen etc. oft als keine echte Pilgerei verunglimpfen....denen sage ich ... jeder geht den Weg auf seine Art... es gibt da kein Richtig und kein Falsch....Immer wieder ein Vergnügen....

The book provides a rare combination of humour (ranging from clever to silly) and depth (ranging from reflections on habits to religious thoughts). I was not quite sure why I started to read it, but I the book grew on me enormously and after 100 pages or so I was really excited. I am a busy guy, little time to read- but for this book I took the time. Impressive overall

Read the book. Watched the film. Read it again. Talked about it. Bought it as a present for others. Honest, down to earth, touching, inspiring... no matter what you do / do not believe in. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to experience it yourself one day.

Ich danke Hape für dieses Buch!!!!! Meine Entscheidung den Weg selber zu gehen wurde hiermit nur bestätigt und jetzt kann ich es kaum abwarten in Zukunft meine eigenen Erfahrungen zu machen.
