Great toaster with matching kettle
What do you look for in a toaster? Funky looks? Lots of toasting options? Or are you drawn to a toaster that simply toasts well? or do you like one that matches your kettle? If it's all of the above and if you are looking at buying a kettle as well, then you're in luck with this Delonghi toaster, as you can get a matching kettle as well. It has a classic look, complete with chrome accents and retro dials, that will most likely sit well in any kind of kitchen. The front of the machine, there is the dual toast levers, the dual browning controls and the other buttons reside. Overall it's a styling that won't be to everyone's taste but I love it and it goes really well in our kitchen. If you like a toaster that gives you a little more in the way of toasting options, then you'll be just as pleased with the Delonghi. There are only so many functions you can cram into a device designed purely to turn bread into slightly burned bread, but the Delonghi has pretty much all those you'll find on any other up-market toaster. A `bagel' setting toasts one side of the bagel only, while the `reheat' function warms up toast that has gone cold. Lastly, the `defrost' setting defrosts frozen bread in preparation for it to be toasted. These functions are accessed via two sets of buttons on the machine's front. The toast levers each have a raising facility that pushes the toast up out of the top to assist in grabbing things like crumpets and really small slices of bread, although they don't actually raise it as far as I think they should and you might still have to jab your fingers in to grab toasted items. The browning controls are two knobs with dials above them, showing the browning level on a scale of 1 to 6 - turn one of the knobs and the needle in the dial above it turns accordingly. If you're after a toaster that simply toasts well, then you may be pleasantly surprised (as I was) at how well the Delonghi does. Thick white bread at browning level 4 comes out extremely evenly toasted - better, in fact, than pretty much any other toaster I've used. The slot farthest to the right seems to be hotter than the others for some reason, and one side of the toast in all slots tends to be ever so slightly more well-done than the other, but the difference really is minimal. To toast a thick slice of white bread at level 4 takes around 3 and a half minutes and the only thing missing here is any kind of countdown timer, but precious few non-electronic toasters have that anyway. Being a four-slice toaster, and seeing as there are only two raising levers and two browning dials, each one controls two of the four toasting slots. It means that someone wanting two pieces of toast, one done lightly and one done well, will have to turn on all four slots, but this is typical for a four-slice toaster. The Delonghi incorporates two crumb trays, accessible (slightly awkwardly) only from the back, and a pretty short electrical lead, so don't expect to house this too far from an electrical socket without an extension cable. I haven't used the defrost function as I don't freeze bread, but I do find the reheat setting quite helpful, especially when I've toasted two pieces of bread at once and the second has gone cold in the time it's taken me to eat the first. All this setting really does is to toast the bread on a low heat to warm it through, but it is nice to have the guesswork taken out of the equation I suppose. If I'm honest, I really was quite surprised at how well the Delonghi toasts bread, as I wasn't expecting too much from it. The styling isn't quite my thing but purely as a toaster rather than a decorative item I really can't fault it. I think it fits the bill if you want a toaster that looks quite funky, has toasting options to suit almost everyone and toasts very well, but you don't need the flashing lights and warning sounds found on modern electronic toasters. Okay, so the price is high, but if you're willing to pay extra to have a well designed/stylish toaster, this one is waiting to be a great addition to your kitchen!

Nice large form 4 slice toaster - expensive but very good quality and design
I have not really invested much money in a toaster before as I have opted for the lower priced generic supermarket versions. However after my last toaster seemed to have developed irrational and anti-social habit of burning toast at all costs I thought I would invest a little more money in a more expensive equipment. This De'Longhi toaster is a large 4 slice toaster and its construction is very good and solid. I think if you buy this toaster you will be better off keeping it out as a feature and not putting it away in a cupboard, as it is quite bulky and heavy. The toaster itself is very good and will accurately cook your toast from warm bread right through to fairly well done (this toaster does not have a burnt setting!). The controls are simple and you have a number of useful settings such as Bagle, Frozen bread, reheat and of course a cancel option. The toast cooking setting is controlled via easy to use buttons and an easy to read dial. Overall this is a good toaster and it looks very nice too. Certainly is not a cheap product but the quality seems match the price tag fairly well. I have given 4 start for this review as it is a little on the expensive side.

Excellent and even browning
At last a very good toaster at a good price. Great design. Can use each side separate. Large slots so will take thicker bread and tea cakes and crumpets. Even cooking on both sides. Got bagel setting but not used that yet. Love the cream colour. Very good price for a well made excellent toaster.

Beautiful retro design
This toaster has a beautiful retro design and feels solid and well-made. The chrome finish and chrome dials in particular make the toaster look stylish. The toaster is very simple to use and it's easy to set the desired browning level using the twistable knobs, I find levels 3 or 4 enough to comfortably brown most thicknesses of bread. Whilst some other reviews have commented the toaster is quite pricey, I feel the robust build quality of the toaster will mean it will last for many years and the attractive design makes it worth the price tag. Uneven toasting.
Does not toast evenly on both sides, which booklet says “is normal”. I would prefer a machine which has even colour on BOTH sides.
