Maximum LEGO EV3: Building Robots with Java Brains (LEGO Mindstorms EV3)

Fantastic book to use with the Lego EV3 kits. I am using this as a base resource for teaching robotics to 10th graders!

great ideas

As I want to buy the EV3 after my Java driven NXT, this book is a logical purchase. Especially as I had all the other NXT books from Bagnall. My only wish would be not only downloadable sources but also coloured building instructions which my grandchildren could use without my support, the printed black/white version is too vague

Very detailed. Great for older kids, but a bit trying for a grade 6 student. Lots of opportunities with the projects in this book!

It takes some computer skills to get the environment set up as described in the book. But for a motivated and smart kid, this is a great way to move a bit beyond the standard EV3 programming and "hack" the EV3 a bit.

Ugh! I thought that by buying this book I would learn something new. If you have any Lejos experience (AKA you read the Wiki of Lejos) I would not recommend you to read this book. It's very shallow, there's very basic examples, the java chapters seems to be there just to fill a gap. It would be fair to readers to be aware of how basic this book is. There really ain't much you will get out of it

You really need to be a Java programmer to get much out of this book. The robots are not that exciting.

Absolut mangelhaft. Ca. 80% nur Sachen, die nichts mit der Programmierung zu tun haben, sondern es werden Modelle gebaut und alle Lego-Teile groß und breit erklärt wie in jedem anderen Lego Buch auch. Installationsbeschreibung der Software ist unbrauchbar, da Fehler und das erste Programm "Hello World" läuft nicht.

Un utilissimo manuale per poter programmare in Java il mattoncino EV3. Il target è per studenti frequentanti il triennio delle scuole superiori di II grado (sopratutto ad indirizzo tecnico/informatico) e/o universitari. Non presenta una guida per il programmatore alle prime armi (molte parti sottendono, soprattutto per i principianti, concetti un po' difficili), né adeguate tecniche di costruzione robotica con i mattoncini Technic (per i meno esperti). Affronta invece problematiche ed applicazioni utili per la programmazione di robot con il linguaggio Java utilizzando LeJOS in Eclipse e corredando molti capitoli/trattazioni con istruzioni utili per la creazione di particolari modelli con il set EV3 retail (31313). Ogni robot viene quindi programmato presentando listati di codice ed adeguate spiegazioni. Quindi un ottimo libro per approfondire le proprie conoscenze nella programmazione Java di robot, soprattutto nel campo della "robotica educativa" a scuola.

Along with lejos.org this book is the best source of information on ev3 and lejos. Just make sure you run the latest version of lejos on your ev3 (sourceforge will help ya;)), otherwise things like ColorAdapter may not work (unless you will create your own version).
