Southern Patio Blowmolded Base For Offset Umbrella, White

Bought this for an umbrella to go over an enormous sand box at a preschool that was in full sun. We had liked the idea of an offset umbrella but want something very sturdy, easy to fill and to avoid using cinderblocks or something sharp with edges on the playground. This was a great solution. It was easy to fill up with water in place and the whole set up was super easy to put together. Suggest if using water adding a little drop of bleach to keep water from getting moldy after a while. I must say that the way this base looks best is hidden (like in a corner blocked by other stuff)--not hideous but as our umbrella stand was black and this is white and big it stands out. However, safety was our top concern and this really fit the bill.

Bought for 10-foot cantilever `market' umbrella Coolaroo 10 Foot Round Cantilever Freestanding Patio Umbrella, Mocha , with "+" shaped stand base--weight covered three of the four `arms' with grooved underside positioned to sit flat (for cantilever umbrellas, position weight on the opposite side(!) of the umbrella-arm direction, of course). Provides sufficient weight when filled with water only (can use sand or sand/water mixture). Has handles and smooth wheels for relocating once filled, but may leak when moving, and in fact does leak when lying flat and filled beyond halfway (still provided sufficient weight, however). The product is very large and space-consuming, dark green in colour, and not particularly attractive. Plastic material is lightweight unfilled, durable but flexible, and will not support anything heavy sitting on it, such as heavy planters used to spruce up appearance. Smooth plastic and wheels will not mar decks, as might the use of paving stones. If using water or a water/sand mix, weight would likely need to be emptied out for winter and stored, as it is unclear how well the plastic would endure a freeze, esp. with any moisture in it.

I agree with other reviews that this isn't the prettiest thing to look at, but that's worth it because it works great!! We had tried using multiple pavers to hold down our new offset unbrella, but it was blowing over with even the lightest breeze. We've had a couple of windy days with this new base and I've left the umbrella fully open to test it - it hasn't budged! Very happy with this purchase. And if it turns out I really can't stand the white color, that's nothing that a can of spray paint can't fix. Again, totally worth it.

I was disappointed to open the box and find that 1) it was white. No where in the description did it state this is a white base nor was there a color selection. The picture [at the time of my purchase] appeared to be a light tan shade. The box indicates that this base is available in the tan, white or hunter green. 2) This base is HUGE! 3) It had ugly molded handles that are not shown in the picture.Back to the size, I was planning on placing my offset umbrella behind an Adirondack chair and have the chair sort of hide the base. But there is no way! This base is not only gigantic, it's thick and cannot be hidden except for under a table. Very disappointed.

This product works as described, however, it is alot larger than it looks in the picture. It is very ugly! And for the price why buy something so unattractive for your patio area. I suggest getting the triangle shaped umbrella weights instead. We found some and they work perfectly and are low to the ground and fit in much nicer with any patio decor.

Filled this unit with water and it worked OK for a while. Moved a couple of times and the unit cracked. Had to fill with sand to keep it functional. The unit has wheels, but once it is full it is very heavy and difficult to move. ( I guess that makes sense ) May be better just getting 4 large paver stones.

This thing is HUGE, obnoxious and ugly....BUT IT WORKS! We get terrible monsoon/dust/wind storms here in AZ in the summer and this is the ONLY base we've used that prevents the umbrella from landing in our pool. We keep it filled w/water & a chlorine tablet. Just be sure you have enough space because it really is a bit of an eyesore; we keep ours covered w/vines we grow in the summer.

I had purchased a 10' ft offset umbrella, and really needed a weight to go over the inadequate cross base that the umbrella came with. This base can be filled with water or sand, and when filled, the base is very very heavy, and fits over the cross perfectly. My umbrella is definitely not going to fall over! When I want to move the umbrella, the base can be tilted on the side with wheels, and can be rolled easily. And the price was so much better than comparable bases. I only wish that the base was offered in different colors.
