Straight out of the simple packaging, the initial impression of this very large bird feeder is that it is a quirky looking, high capacity relatively well constructed feeder made from all metal components and parts. A flimsy ribbon is attached for elaboration but it was removed immediately as it may well have dissuaded the birds from landing / feeding. I say may have, as currently it sits unfilled as the lid will not, despite many tries by several people, fit. The three points on the underneath of the lid appear to be a "snap" fit. Two can be inserted, but the third will not locate. I could fill & hang it but it would rather go against one of the main points of design - making it squirrel proof as there would be a large opening at the top ! I will email the company to inform them and see what happens - I will update if or when they get in touch.EDIT - manufacturer has since sent a second holder & the lid fits perfectly .. holder is now in full use in the garden and working very well :)

The product is to large the birds can’t get to the nuts at the bottom, it went rusty really quick

This cheery looking bird feeder is sure to bring a smile to your face with his smart blue hat and matching scarf.For hungry birds the contents will be the welcome sight.The No/No PB00355 37 cm Friendly Polar Bear Wild Bird Feeder in white is a whole lot bigger than you would expect from just looking at the picture.It’s volume is about 3 times the normal standard size of bird feeders.It is designed for black sunflower seeds and holds up to 3 and a half pounds of them.So you will need to break the bank when you fill it up.This means that if you get one of these you must be serious about feeding the birds and will need to get those 10Kgs sacks of Black Sunflower seeds- otherwise if you don't buy in bulk your figure will soon run out.The No-No stands for no wood no plastic.This snowman feeder is made from a sturdy metal mesh that would challenge even the most sharp toothed squirrel.Its large size and construction with the mesh all over its surface means that quite a few birds can feed at once.In cold weather I can well imagine a flock of 8 for one sitting!But not for long as the volume and level drops.Now its size when full will mean that you will need to position it where the support can take that 3 and a half pound weight of black sunflower seeds.And it needs to be positioned so that if new birds land and it swings the birds present will not be swung like a demented Quasimodo in Notre Damme cathedral and injured by near by branches and suchlike.The capacity should mean that you will have to spend less time re filling but that ability to feed so many hungry birds at once may negate that.If you are a bird lover or this is a gift for an avid bird lover then this is a good Christmas Gift idea with the Snowman theme.It is suspended via the sides and is refilled via the blue cap.This does not look too robust to me but time will tell.If you prefer you can get it's partner as a Penguin.Here is a link. I feed the birds all year round and already have feeders containing sunflower hearts, peanuts, fat balls and lard. My existing seed feeders are the conventional type - long plastic tubes with perches for the birds. This feeder is something different. It will be used by birds which prefer to cling rather than perch - mainly tits. In its favour it is all metal and appears sturdily made and it undoubtedly looks quirky and attractive. However, I experienced various problems with it. Firstly, it can only be used with black sunflower seeds. It does not work with sunflower hearts or wild bird seed which are too small and simply fall through the holes. On the other hand, peanuts are too big and the birds cannot get at them. However, when you fill it with black sunflower seeds, many will also fall through the sides of the feeder. I placed a plastic bird bath beneath the feeder to catch falling sunflower seeds and it soon filled up. In spite of this a huge amount of sunflower seeds also ended up on the ground. This made a mess of the patio and attracted a rat! The feeder was also awkward to fill and the hat would not stay on when you removed it to fill the feeder. This feeder may look attractive and some birds undoubtedly love it, but it made such a mess that as soon as I have used up the black sunflower seeds which I bought, it will be taken down and never used again! I strongly recommend that people should buy a conventional feeder and buy sunflower hearts instead of the black seeds. They make much less mess and are better value foe money.
