Quite easily my cats favourite toy
Quite easily my cats favourite toy. I needed something to keep my cat occupied whilst I'm trying to work from home. Anyone currently sitting day in day out staring at faces on a screen in virtual meetings, workshops and socials will understand how cats are really very interested in being part of your day job. I picked this butterfly toy as my cat loves to chase moths or anything small and insectile. Looking at the reviews I also ordered the extra pack of butterflies as some people have had their cats destroy the butterfly almost instantly. My cat hasn't destroyed even one butterfly yet. She has, however used up three sets of AA batteries playing with this toy. She even knows when my 9am meeting is about to start and comes to ask for her toy to be switched on. There was a small bedding in period when she was initially scared of it but she's totally over that now For the money it's awesome and does an excellent job of keeping her occupied. The butterfly on the end is showing wear on the ribbons but that's all. Improvements I'd like to see are an auto off timer (to save on batteries) and maybe a weighted base as she's learned to flip it over via a sideways run and pounce manoeuvre, which then means I have to try and flip it back over with my foot whilst still trying to look professional in my teams meeting. Apart from that it's an excellent toy and I've recommended it to friends who are subsequently also now enjoying relatively peaceful, cat free online meetings ๐

Well built, but maybe a bit too fast for a young kitten
I bought one of these to help entertain a twelve week old kitten, because it's a long time since I've had such a young cat in the house and my wrists just aren't up to the constant waggling of the traditional thing-on-a-string toys. The build quality of this toy seems to be very good; the whole thing stands on a solid plastic base that doesn't offer much purchase for little teeth or claws to do significant damage or knock it over. The wire that attaches the butterfly to the detachable spindle seems fairly strong and has so far resisted all attempts at chewing through it (by the cat, I should add. My own teeth are way too old to be trying that). The butterfly itself might not fare so well; there are already significant kitty chew marks on the wings. But on a positive note, the bit where the wire attaches to the body seems very robust and unlikely to detach leaving a sharp wire end. The toy comes with a second butterfly / wire / attachment and, as other reviewers have pointed out, even if both are chewed to oblivion there's always the option to mount something else on the end of the wire. Nothing a hot glue gun and a dip into the crafting bit box won't cure. Cats aren't fussy about what they're chasing as long as it moves... Which brings me onto what is probably this thing's biggest design flaw: the motor is just too damned powerful! With the full 4.5 volts feeding it (3 x AA batteries) it whipped round like Wonder Woman's lasso, leaving our poor kitten staring at it in shock and awe with her head going back and forth like an umpire at a Wimbledon final. It was entertaining for a few minutes but the poor cat wasn't getting much interaction. In the end I removed one of the batteries and replaced it with a dummy so the motor was only getting 3V. (I used an AAA-AA adapter with a couple of woodscrews stuffed into it; more professional solutions are probably more appropriate if you have access to the right tools). After that it was much more sedate, and the cat is able to interact with the butterfly (and, more often than not, the shiny wire). What's rather cute when it's running on 3V is that the cat can impart enough force with a good swipe to temporarily knock the rotor backwards, which causes the butterfly to "flutter" in place as the motor fights the torque. It gives the impression that the insect is steeling itself for another run, and our kitten seems to love the interplay and waits for it to come back. It's like she's playing swingball. Obviously if you have a larger, stronger or more aggresive cat then the 4.5V motor might not be a problem. Indeed I can imagine having to refit that third battery when our own moggie gets a bit heftier. But if you have a smaller or weaker animal, consider that you may have to temporarily reduce the voltage in some way. Maybe the manufacturer could consider a variable speed control for a future model? Overall I'd give it five stars for the build quality, discounted price and fun factor, minus one star for the overcranked motor.

Hours of Fun!
We have two large cats who went mad for these, I only have to go near the butterfly and they both start to get excited. This provides hours of fun and challenges the cats instincts. The colours and materials of the butterfly imitate the real flapping of wings and therefore engages all sensors. I'm yet to test how long the motor lasts as I've not had them long and the butterfly lasted long enough against the cats. The packaging was of good quality and provided all the essentials except batteries. There are even additional butterflies provided. The question now is how do I buy more butterflies?

Good product but not for my cats
The quality of the product is fine, it does not come with batteries, unfortunately. My cats showed mixed reactions towards the toy, in fact they were a bit frightened as the butterfly is quite clanky and makes noise. Overall not overwhelmingly happy with the purchase although it is difficult to predict whether your cat will like it or not.

Cats love it
My cats love this toy, but they soon bend the wire so the butterfly is on the floor! Could do with slightly stronger wire or a lightweight plastic cover to stop the wire bending so easily. May just be my cats who attack the butterfly and hold onto it!! Base flips over alot as other reviewers have said. Battery cover hard to screw down as screw seems too long. Love the little screwdriver supplied with it as not known anyone else do this!! They love it and can see its going to cost me a fortune in batteries!! Recommended

Perfect, finally
We've tried for so long to find a toy our cat will actually play with, and we finally hit the jackpot! While setting it up he was next to me, calm as ever. I turned it on for not even a second and for the next 30 minutes he was batting, clawing, and chewing it! The wire has been bent to the floor now lol, but he still enjoys it fluttering along the floor and will go for it when he's feeling playful. The base itself could really do with more weight in it as our boy drags it every time he claws the butterfly, and it's strangely really squeaky, though I admit that might be what helps our cat feels he needs to shut it up. Hands down the best purchase we've made for him since we got him, now to look for more toys like these!

Excellent distraction for hyper kitten
I have been looking for something to distract my hyperactive bengal kitten and stop him play biting/ scratching me. This is the only toy I have bought which really works - he has destroyed/ ignored everything else. The only concern is that it seems flimsy and the butterfly wire bent within about 10 minutes but fortunately there are 3 replacements. However given heโs broken all other toys within seconds it must be relatively robust! Even if it does break Iโll probably buy another or something similar.

OMG! What a buy!
Great value for money and I was absolutely made up when I opened it and there was 4 butterfly attachments! It wore her out so quickly she began doing it lying down and that shows how much she loves it! It makes a fluttering sound which attracts her to it as well as the colour and the fact it goes round. Would 100% buy again.
