A Unique Ghost Story Told in an Addictively Brisk Manner
Truly a captivating and intriguing story with a deliciously brisk pace, so much so I read the entire book in one sitting. The case is fairly unique, with the ghost-hunter turned ghost-hunted a welcome relief from the all too typical, "haunted house" story, making this a good addition to any paranormal collector's bookshelf. While I feel comfortable recommending this book, there are two things that kept me from giving it a full 5 stars.1. Unfortunately, the writing style leaves something to be desired for, with simplistic vocabulary, rampant staccoto-burst sentences and imperfect structure.2. While the author certainly has veteran experience in the field of ghost hunting she has an extreme lack of knowledge in the more malevolent areas of the paranormal. One need only read any single book on Demonology to see how many things she did wrong in the tale-end of her encounters and unfortunately because of this I believe she is still at great risk..All that said, if one approaches this book as something of a glorified blog-post, it is easy to see past the amateuristic writing and lack of expert opinion and enjoy it for what it is: a well told and unique ghost story.

Fighting the Invisible
Some people are very unfortunate in this life to become targeted by dark entities. Beings who are invisible and also an evil menace. What do you do when this happens? Who do you turn to? Is this even preventable, in the first place?I think that every paranormal investigator at every level of experience should read this book, and recommend it to their friends and family. You don't think much about this, until it actually happens to you. This is a very well-written accounting of an investigator's horrifying experience dealing with a demonic energy that she picked up at the site of a paranormal investigation. What Joni went through is something we can all learn from. Her guide to protecting yourself located in the back of the book is one of the smartest and most comprehensive I've read. All her recommendations are simple and above all, effective. I truly sympathize with Joni. It took a lot of guts to ignore the advice to forget all about her experience, in the efforts to keep the dark entity away. I am so glad she has shared this information with the world so that we can also help ourselves and others, should this situation arise in our lives.

Joni keeps your attention with every sentence.
This is a must read for all those out there that are into the paranormal, all of the new investigators that don't know what to expect. READ THIS BOOK FIRST. I was excited to have another of Joni's books to read. She holds your attention and you can't look away, or sleep, or work, or.... well, you get the idea. In the few times that we had met, I had heard Joni mention something "that attached" to her. She never mentioned a name, and she was always very vague. It was just enough to make me wonder but too scared to push for more answers. After reading this book, I am glad I didn't ask. I started reading the first chapter and finished the book 36 hours later. (I did have to break for work and sleep). I was scared for her but hooked at the same time. Joni, you are one STRONG woman!!

A frightening account of the dark side of the paranormal
I debated writing a review for this book because I am not only a reader -- I was a witness to the difficult ordeal that Joni experienced. However, I never knew the full extent of that ordeal until I read this book. In it, Joni has captured in vivid detail something every experienced paranormal investigator dreads: a negative attachment. Yes, occasionally ghosts do follow investigators home; I've had it happen to me a number of times. But a negative attachment is something quite different and much more damaging. "The Soul Collector" is a compelling read: it drew me in and kept me on the edge of my seat. It's both an intense account of something few of us (thank goodness) ever experience and a heads-up to everyone that paranormal encounters are not fun and games. It's a must-read for anybody who investigates the paranormal. Thank you, Joni, for another great read!

Essential Read for Any Ghost Hunter or Medium
As a professional psychic medium, I endorse this book 100%. In fact, I heard the same three words uttered by Michael at the end of the book, naming the entity in dealing with clients in my hometown. My experiences were similar but with a not-so-happy ending. The man in my case shot off his wife's legs and murdered his neighbor, an innocent woman. What separates the thrill seekers from the professionals in the paranormal community is the knowledge that evil is real and that without protection, no one is immune to it. Joni brings this home in a perfectly-written, fast-paced book that focuses on the most important points regarding ghost hunting and the aftermath when it all goes wrong. This isn't just a book, it's a public service. I read the entire thing in 3 hours and enjoyed it more than books that take me weeks to read.

Falls short but still entertains
The writer entertains you with her adventures into investigating the paranormal places she's visited but it fell short somehow. The personal anecdotes about her failed relationships added nothing to the material (imo) and I was expecting far more than what she encountered when she met the ultimate boogeyman. I had doubts about the credibility of her associates, who may have been totally earnest in intent. It reminded me of the movie "the Blair Witch Project" with people ricocheting off each other building a sort of group hysteria. I really hated to comment at all, since I feel that if you don't have nothing good to say, say nothing. But she is quite talented in weaving an entertaining story and I would recommend it with a glass of wine on a stormy night to provide the perfect setting. I look forward to some more of her books as she grows and refines her skills as a professional storyteller and writer.

The Soul Collector
Good book, well written. However,am absolutely gobsmacked that once she got rid of the entity, she went back to the prison camp and picked him back up!! Good job she knew Michael Robishaw who got rid of the Soul Collector. I think I would have bent over backwards to learn banishing and protection, read Magical Protection by Damon Brand, that might help if any readers have a similar problem.

Repetitive, surface-based...
Although I will always have respect for someone who attempts to write a book and succeeds, that is where my respect for this book ends. I have to agree with all that the following reviewer has said, and I also have to add a bit of my own incredulous disbelief:http://www.amazon.com/review/R1MG2Z1P0LJK9S/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00EIHG90Q&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=I do not find Joni to be a good writer, her story skims the surface of the human experience and doesn't even come close to getting deep into the root of what was happening to her. Her self-lamenting and self-pity got on my nerves to the point where I stopped feeling empathy for her. Then, after chapters and chapters of how the break-up of her marriage, then a break-up with a boyfriend put her in a dark place, she then states in two paragraphs "I'm not one to get depressed or be down for too long..." I actually laughed out loud. Pretty much the entire book was an ode to her post-relationship depressions with a little ghost trekking and scary stuff that happened to her. "Why me?" I read at least 4 times in 3 chapters alone and I kinda wanted to scream...and not from the fear of a persistent entity.I'm sorry to be this reviewer. I wanted to like it, to be involved with it, and learn from Joni's experiences, but I'm not a fan. And I'm fairly convinced all the positive reviewers are Joni's friends. Reading the top 10 most positive comments alone I'm also convinced they were written by the same person. Same use of exclamations! Same marketing pitch! It's sad.
