Nice collection of myths

I purchased this for one of my granddaughters birthdays. She’s collecting gods and goddesses items. This is great for learning about each one. Great price!

I love the story

Bought for a History buff who absolutely loved it. Looks fantastic on the Bookshelf alongside the rest of the collection.

The whole text is an adaption of Emilie K. Baker's "Stories of Old Greece and Rome" in its entirety of the main text, which in itself is a fine introduction to Roman and Greek mythology, edited to use the Greek names of the gods where the Roman names would originally be used. The cover and decorations throughout the text are very good, befitting of the aesthetics I've come to know from the publisher. There are however two very clear issues with the edition, which makes it seem like there was absolutely no review of the material before publishing. First, the original introduction of this edition has a few mistakes notably implying that Heracles fought the Minotaur (instead of Theseus), and the list of gods (which for some reason was shortened from the original work) repeating Dionysus. The second issue is that in its translation of Roman names to Greek it misses a few that someone unfamiliar with Greek mythology would be unaware ("Mors" is in one instance not translated to "Thanatos", for example), and, most glaringly, in translating the name "Ceres" to "Demeter", the multiple instances of the word "Sorceress" were mistakenly translated to "SorDemeters", which is absurd and happens so many times throughout the chapters of Jason and Theseus that it is impossible to miss. The book also doesn't feature any footnotes and omits the content on the appendices of the original 1913 edition, that provided additional insight into the myths, and in some cases could have been adapted as footnotes.

My son is so happy with this book

I love greek myths and legends and while I have a book about the Greek Mythology this one looks more on the tales and legends that surround particular Greek gods. In it there where stories that I never knew of. I am so happy with this purchase.
