Full review

So this is my full review of the ASUS RT-AXE7800.Packaging: when you get the Wi-Fi router your met with a black box, nothing really special inside other than the router itself, a network cable and a plug with both European and uk adapters.Setup: plugged this in and the connected to my sky q router that I’m using a modem using the WAN 2.5G port, I’ve turned the ssid off on the sky router and then use this as the access point. I also connected a 16port gigabit switch to the other WAN 2.5G port. Went through the setup using the ASUS router app available on play store and App Store. Set up is nice and easy and went on to create my network. One thing to note here is that the 2.4 &5ghz channels runs of a separate ssid along side the 6ghz channel. So you will have 2 ssid. I named mine asus so now have 1 showing as asus and another asus6g. Once that was all sorted nothing that was wired into the switch would work although Wi-Fi worked fine. I rebooted everything and tried again and it still didn’t work. Had to factory reset the Wi-Fi router and then set it up again and then it seemed to work fine so just bare this in mind if it happens to you.Performance: I replaced a 4 satellite mesh Wi-Fi system for this and the range is better with this than it was with the 4 satellites. My wireless security cameras no connect a lot quicker and the Wi-Fi generally speaking seems a little quicker overall, the INTERNET speed isn’t any different but it seems to load web pages and content a little quicker, possibly down to the better cpu in this router compared to the mesh system.I live in a reasonably sized house and get Wi-Fi in every room without issues.Downsides: haven’t really found any yet, the UI of the app is a little full on but other than that it’s all good, there are a LOT of options and settings to mess around with in the app but I left most of these off and didn’t have any issues.Verdict: I’d recommend this router, it’s solid performance and range was just what I was after and it’s future proof for anything coming out with 6e in the future.

Returned advertised speed over Wifi for Full Fibre Internet

I had an ASUS Wifi 6 Router before this 6E model and it was only returning 150 Mbps. This returns 700 Mbps over 5GHz and the full fat 930Mbps over Wifi 6GHz. Very happy with the router, admin console is easy to use and offers plenty of utility for modern internet usage. Highly recommend.

Fairly good router but ASUS Support is non-existant

The phone apps and web interface for this router are nice and responsive. The signal strength is acceptable, and the design is sleek with collapsible antennas. As of this review, the latest firmware update was released in September 2024.I appreciate the router's support for various personal VPN options, especially WireGuard, which allows me to securely access my network from anywhere. However, when I reached out to ASUS for general assistance, I only received a template email in response.

Really easy to set up, wifi faster than your internet, probably

I'd just got gigabit fibre internet and the ISP wanted to rent me a router and the old router didnt want to work. This thing was up and running in 2 minutes and speed tests wired or on wifi give 7-800mbit download speeds. this thing rips.

Bad bad bad

Used an asus router in a flat and it was 100s times better than what VM provided. I figured now that I moved, and left my old router to my family, I'd get something better than what Vodafone provides. Boy was I wrong. Connections keep dropping, and in best scenario I get 45% signal strength in the living room. While Vodafone provided Wifi6 router gives 75% signal strength. Phone was lying on a table. I credibly poor performance. For this price I shouldn't have to worry about signal at all in the entire house. Avoid.

Simply Effective

We needed to upgrade our router as it had served us well during its service life, so we had a few generations worth of technology to catch up... We did our research to learn the technical improvements (speeds, etc.), read mulitple reviews, and settled on this model. The only negative reviews seem to come from American websites so I am not sure if networks work differently over that side of the pond, but it has been very easy to set up, and runs without issue. The signal strength is very good (we live in a large, old Victorian building with solid walls and have full coverage on every frequency), and the speed is excellent. I think this is the sweet point before diminishing returns as every faster model is considerably more expensive.Nothing is perfect but for the most part, this one gets it right. I have seen complaints about the fixed angle of the antennae, but this has not presented for us, despite being ceiling mounted? We would definitely recommend this unit.

Such a great router !! (especially coming from a VM Hub3)

Such a great router that performs exceptionally well. My Virgin Media hub 3 is/was aweful. My Xbox Series X download speed was always less that 90mbps. Even after suspending open games it never went above 90mbps. I always thought it was the Xbox's fault. After putting the hub 3 into modem mode, this router now gives it 500+ Mbps (wired).Haven't tried WiFi with Xbox, but wired is definitely the biz. . My Quest 3 runs ace using Wifi6 (pcvr steam games) but be aware that for some odd reason, WiFi 6 takes its sweet time being detected. Same. Issue with my Pixel 7a. I have no idea why it hides away so long, but it does work great with virtual desktop when connected. Worth noting though... if you take your Quest 3 off... you can lose WiFi connection.. and then have to reconnect. This is my second vr headset (after og vive) so this might be normal (shrugs). To sum up... pricey yes, but pretty awesome router and certainly future proofed (for the time being at least until WiFi7 appears)👌😎👍
