I have homeschooled for 7 years and this is the perfect program to increase vocabulary without being monotonous. It doesn't have a strong spelling component, but it can easily be added by the teacher. The words are challenging. If you have a child whose vocabulary/spelling is not strong, I would consider moving down a grade. I have my third grader (whose is a late reader and terrible speller) doing the second grade book and it's perfect.

great basic vocabulary book
The exercises are fine for what they are; reading comprehension, cross word puzzles, sentence scrambled. The word lists are on par for the grade level. We've been using Wordly Wise for years.I bought our book used. It came crinkled up a bit but in ok shape.
