Ryken's Bible Handbook Hardcover – October 1, 2005

I got this book for a class and decided to keep it afterward. It has nicely arranged explanations for what each book of the Bible is about. It's in a sturdy hardcover and is a convenient size. My book came in excellent condition.

I struggle to grasp the large themes and concepts when studying the Bible. You know the saying that you can't see the forest because of the leaves? That is me! I tend to get so focused on individual verses that I can miss the layout and intent of each book of the Bible. This book is excellent has great sections for each book that point out things to keep in mind while reading and areas that are difficult to understand. While it does go through and give themes for each section, this is not intended to be a commentary or a study. Each time I study a book I read through the handbook to help me.

The best part of this book is that Ryken has written it as a literary guide to the Bible. He explains in detail the different types of literature found in the various books of the Bible. Knowing the hows and whys of the different literary genres deepens one understanding of the text...which is the whole point of Bible study in the first place.The section on the Psalms and poetry is worth the price of this book! Highly recommended!

The Handbook was expected to arrive today and arrived in excellent condition and on time.For those knowledgeable about books and especially handbooks of the Bible this is an excellent Handbook to obtain. Easy for the beginner and useful for the experienced as well.Highly recommend.  Ryken's Bible Handbook ed.

This book is an excellent overview of each book of the Bible. When I'm starting a study of a book, I spend a few minutes reading the chapter in the handbook to get a perspective on literary structure as well as the connection to other books in the Bible.

Short, precise but thorough in his survey of each book. A great resource for any one who wants to study and understand the Bible.
