I bought this for my vehicle. I can't explain it, I just know that in the past I've had this vague fear or concern over what we would do if we ever had an issue and were trapped in our vehicle in the water. Hopefully I will never have to use this tool, but I'm feeling happy that I have a tool that can help me and my family quickly and easily to break out of the car. This has a safe place in our glove box. I think every vehicle needs to have this tool. It helps not only break the window if needed, but it helps cut the seat belt as well which could result in saving lives of the people you care about.

These safety escape devices have become quite ubiquitous and there are all kinds of designs and configurations of these. I personally prefer these spring-loaded glass breakers to the ones that require an actual hammering action that need force and an open motion (that may not be possible in a confined emergency situation). I also think that each door in a car should have one of these devices near it, because in an emergency it may not be possible to move around inside the car to get to the only one that may be attached to the dash, in the glovebox, by the steering wheel, etc.These breakers are well-made, are unobtrusive, and function quite well. Also, a small piece of glass is included with the product so that you can test the breaker if you need to.

Good:- Small and lightweight- Easy to use, doesn't require a lot of strength to use.- Comes with a silver dollar sized piece of glass to test the breaker. Very cool!- Includes a mounting clip with double-sided tape to mount anywhere in the vehicle.- InexpensiveNot so good:- Caps need to be removed to use either the impact tip and the seat belt cutter. I could foresee fumbling with these caps in an emergency, especially if I had to use it one-handed.All-in-all, this is a great choice.

This tool has a two case scenario...one, to break a vehicle window and two, to cut a seatbelt. Hopefully I will never have the need for either, but I still appreciate the confidence this gives me, to be able to override being 'stuck'. The one feature that does concern me though is that to break a car window, impact needs to be made at all four corners of the windshield. This is better than not having any options, so for this I am glad it's in our glovebox!

When I first opened this, I thought the item I received was defective because the metal breaker point wasn't lining up with the hole it's supposed to go through to break glass. Luckily it comes with a little circle of tempered glass to try it out on. Sure enough, I pressed down and the metal tip comes right out. It dented and scratched the glass on the first attempt, but on the second try the glass broke into a spider web pattern. I have small hands and it still worked fine for me. I do wish there were a way to differentiate the two ends because the caps look the same on both the glass breaker and the star belt cutter. Other than that, this seems like a great essential to have for emergencies.
