We purchased the Narwal Freo Z Ultra to replace our iRobot i7 on the main floor of our house (1700 sqft). This floor is mostly LPV with a few rugs here and there. I had very low expectations for the quality of the mopping, so we were hoping to get at least the same performance from this device as the i7 when it came to vacuuming and keeping the dog hair and dirt to a minimum between cleanings. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that it did that and more. Setup was easy, and the base station was obviously well thought out. I had some issues defining the rooms I wanted, as our space is very open and rooms are often delimited by furniture rather than walls. But the app has a number of different ways to work around that using no-go zones and manual mapping options. The device and base station have a modularity to them that's similar to the iRobot products, so it is easy to replenish and replace accessories and parts, either on their OEM site or here on Amazon. The capabilities can even be upgraded by installing an alternate detergent reservoir for spot cleaning solution, or even an automatic fresh and waste water management system. Scheduling and job monitoring are easy to use, but we struggle with some base station issues that are not clearly pushed to the app. For example, you currently do not get notified when the base station has run out of fresh water or if the wastewater is full. You are simply notified that a scheduled job cannot start, and usually it's not until the job has timed out and has been cancelled for being paused for too long. There are rumblings that this will be fixed in future app updates, but we've just got into the habit of checking water levels on a regular basis. Our i7 has officially been demoted to basement duty, and it's most likely that when the next major part needs replacing on it we'll probably replace it with another Narwal (It's on its last legs due to a deep clean and refit after an unfortunate run-in with a dog mess). Speaking of cleanup, the device is as easy to keep clean as our i7, but don't forget to pull out the mop head cleaning tray and clean on a regular basis. It does such a good job mopping that this tray gets really dirty and full of material (especially pet hair). We forgot to clean it after a month of daily mopping jobs and it needed it. Pros: - Great app, easy to set up - Mopping function is as good as vacuuming - Lots of options for replacement parts and enhancements - Quiet (compared to i7, even when set on enhanced suction) - Easy to clean - Doesn't just avoid obstacles, it maps them and has pictures - Cool security roaming mode that sends pictures of waypoints to the app - Object avoidance is more sophisticated, so it's gentler on our house Cons: - Base station notifications are limited, and you often miss them unless you are standing next to it - OEM replacement parts are available, but seem expensive - Room mapping in the app can be tricky to get right in open areas

Post service update: Received a replacement base station after 25 days. Now I am unable to connect the vacuum to the new base station. Tried all troubleshooting steps and even contacted support. Looks like im looking at another service ticket. At this point I would not recommend this company to anyone. It worked great while it did but reliability of products actually make or break a company name. I can do without all the bells and whistles but longevity is my priority over the rest. Thankfully I haven’t got rid of my old iRobot J9+. Back to the old reliable workhorse. ————————————————————— 4 month update: The base station has already developed an issue this early on around the clean water tank. I get an error 2006 and it doesn’t seem to pull water from the clean water tank. After trying all the troubleshooting steps from Narwal customer care, I have been asked to send the base station in for service. Two things put me off here. 1. It’s too early in the lifecycle of this pricey $2000 product to develop this sort of issue. My 2 yr old iRobot j9+ is still going strong with zero issues. 2. I could have been offered a replacement base unit without the hassle of sending this for “service” as it’s well within warranty. Looking through forums the service can take a couple of weeks. Shall update further after my experience with the “service”. Taking a star ⭐️ off. —————————————————————— Great vacuum robot however spare parts are hard to find. Even though there are non-ORM options available out there, the original parts are hard to come by even on their official website. E.g. you shall find that the replacement roller brush, replacement insert bin, dust bin filters cannot be purchased separately. Instead you shall be offered the pricier combo pack which you may not need. This is clearly a way to fleece money off the customers. It’s a similar issue with Roborock brand. The after market accessories are mostly incompatible.

Avoid Narwal at All Costs – Terrible Product, Even Worse Customer Service I put this machine to work. I have a 3,000 sq ft main floor with mixed flooring, and I ran my Narwal for almost six months. At first, it seemed fine, but that didn’t last long. Here’s where it all went south: • For the price, this thing is garbage. The cost doesn’t come close to matching how it performs. • The mapping is awful. It never cleaned “edge to edge” like it claims. Even after several remaps, it constantly missed large areas. • Maintenance is expensive and constant. Each mop cartridge costs $35–$40, and you’re forced to buy Narwal’s own brand. The vacuum bags are also pricey. Knockoff versions barely work and can cause dust to blow all over the inside of the unit. • It doesn’t even empty itself properly. Every other cleaning, I had to take it apart and empty the onboard dust cup manually. • The dirty water tank stinks, always. I cleaned it every single morning, and no matter what I did, it still smelled foul. The design makes it impossible to clean completely. • The base tray grows mold. The area where the robot “cleans” its mop pads turns into a science experiment in a day or two if you don’t scrub it constantly. Then came the disaster. Around month four, I noticed water pooling around the base. When I moved it, I found that the base had been leaking underneath and my wood floors were buckled, and the baseboard was pulling away from the wall. After doing some research on Reddit, I found that this is a known issue: the pump that drains water into the dirty tank can fail, flooding under the base. Because we ran it nightly, the leak had been happening for days, hidden under the giant base. I contacted Narwal support, the only way to reach them is through a ticket system. While waiting for a response, I filed a claim with my homeowner’s insurance, who sent a mitigation crew. Unfortunately, our flooring was discontinued, which meant we had to replace almost all of it on the bottom floor, a $22,000 repair. Narwal’s response? They emailed me in the middle of the night (their customer service is overseas) apologizing and asking for photos and videos of the damage, which I sent along with the repair estimate. Their solution was insulting: they offered me a free accessory kit and a $30 check. I asked for a full refund or a replacement device, and they refused. This dragged on for more than three weeks, with days between each reply, while my house was being torn apart. Finally, I reached out to Amazon, explained the situation, and they stepped up like a company should. They had UPS pick up the unit, and once it was returned, they issued me a full refund. Amazon is the real hero here. Narwal, on the other hand, has permanently lost my trust. Every time I see one of their ads, I warn people to stay away. We replaced the Narwal with a Shark, and it’s night and day. The cleaner costs $13 for a huge bottle, no dust bags needed, and it actually cleans edge to edge, something the Narwal never managed once. Save yourself the money, the stress, and the damage to your home. Do not buy anything from Narwal.

I’ve been loving my Narwal Freo Z Ultra so far. Setup was quick and simple, and on the first day it cleaned and re-cleaned all on its own, mapping my space perfectly. Since then, it hasn’t needed to re-map or re-check dirty areas because the floors stay so clean. The suction and mopping are amazing, and the self-washing/self-emptying features save me so much time. My floors look better than ever with almost no effort from me. Truly worth it if you want a hands-off, high-performance robot vacuum and mop.
