How to effectively gel individuals into an effective team
How do I make my team stronger? What should I focus on? Where do I start?New project leaders ask these questions when they start their first team. Guerric de Ternay clearly lays out the plan and walks with us from casting the vision to teammates to end-of-project debriefings. He not only explains the importance of communicating through 1:1 meetings and team meetings. He then steps us through the “how-to” process many authors avoid. Clearly and succinctly, he explains that meeting with team members should go beyond business performance to learn the person behind the position. These encounters must emphasize the skills, accomplishments, and progress the teammate has made, not just recounting their shortcomings. He even gave us a sample schedule we could follow for these interactions. I appreciate the distinction he makes between giving role-based and task-based feedback and explains the importance and timing of each.He makes most decisions using his seven traits of a healthy team culture—significance, adventure, safety, clarity, communication, ownership, and support.Customers can significantly affect team morale, so he uses several pages advising us on customer management. We must clearly define the project for the customer and set realistic expectations. Even if we have, sometimes there will be unmet expectations, and he walks us through deciding which customer relationships are worth salvaging and which are not. Sometimes, the Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement is to dissociate from the customer. At the end of each chapter, he encourages us to consider how we can apply this information to our situation. I’m anxious to return to work and discuss these with my team.

All a team leader must be, perfectly structured
I borrowed this book thanks to my Kindle Unlimited subscription and read it on my tablet using the Kindle app.I work for a large engineering company with numerous big and small projects. With my growing experience, I expect to eventually lead one of these projects and guide a team to success. In preparation for that, I found this book incredibly useful. It offers a very structured approach, from the start of a project and team formation to dealing with different types of people and achieving the final goal, including the project wrap-up. It covers everything a team leader needs to consider in order to be the great leader expected. The more you highlight in a book, the more valuable the insights and messages become, and this book is full of practical advice worth saving. In summary, it's a quick, easy-to-read, super interesting, and well-structured book.

Great leadership read with truly hands-on advice
Oh wow, this was a very good read. I’ve gone through a few leadership books and The Inspiring Team Lead has stood out from the rest. While the other books provide more ’classic’ advice and examples on leadership, this book brought more real-world examples. Far from the charismatic president style of leadership, this book is hands-on and gives you good advice on how to lead a project team (think of markers on select pages you want to return to after having read the book). I liked the author's seven characteristics of teamwork and how he brought all of them to life with examples that I found helpful to further understand, and to remember after reading, each characteristic.

A very practical book!
When you get a book about leadership or other business topics, you rarely know what you'll get. These days, many books repeat the same thing over and over. This is definitely not the case with The Inspiring Team Lead. This book stands out with its practical approach and the author's concrete way of addressing project management and team dynamics. The structure of the book is interesting in itself. The author anchors his advice in the rhythm of a project making it easy, I find, to picture when to do some of the suggested advice. I know it's the kind of book that I will read a few times or refer to when I have a specific challenge because there's a lot to unpack in just one read.

Practical ways to inspire yourself to inspire your team
So many books on managing teams focus on a theory and major on team set up, they talk about team leadership as though it were a one-off event that you do at the beginning then foget about. By contrast, this is a practical guide to managing and inspiring real teams in the real world on a day to day and week to week basis. It's like a manual of keeping your team inspired and performing at its best - full of practical, simple tools and tips. It's also an easy and enjoyable read. Thoroughly recommend.
