WOW! What a treasury this is!
I just wanted to put some traditional crochet trim on a little Mexican-style dress I made for my granddaughter. I searched the web for a free pattern that I could do - found hardly anything useful out there. I didn't want to spend money on something so basic - BUT my eyes popped when I saw the cover of this book and I knew I needed it in my reference library. This book has it all for me - plain and fancy borders, excellent photographs, clear written directions AND charts. I need it all. I'm a visual learner but sometimes I overlook the obvious and need it spelled out. I learned a lot just reviewing the basic stitches at the beginning and to my great relief I learned - from the excellent illustrations - that I have been crocheting into the wrong part of the chain for lo these many years - which had made crochet a miserable task until now. No this book does not instruct how to go around corners or adapt for an inside curve, but I can figure that out if I can figure the basic stitch out. And I am thrilled that very sample lacks color. They are stitch samples not samples of color work. I am so grateful that they are ALL done up in the same ecru cotton thread - certainly no color feast but very appropriate for a stitch collection. I can instantly compare each pattern to all the others in terms of size, scale, complexity, and overall effect. Color does not work well when you are trying to photograph for detail in a stitch sample. Shadows in ecru don't obscure stitch details but actually enhance them -unlike most colors. And ecru is traditional and these are really traditional patterns. I have tons of knit and crochet stitch books that just don't quite work for me due to samples being done up in various garish colors when it's not even about color work, it's about how the stitch is made. This is a wonderful book for those of use who are good with our hands but have difficulty following directions and want to SEE every detail. Many thanks to the author!

So many to choose from!
I love this book! I grew up with all of our linens that we inherited from my grandma, with each one having a lace crocheted border attached to each towel, pillow case, bed sheet, dish towel and on and on. Now I will be able to continue the tradition with this book in hand. It inspires me on so many levels.I noticed in the reviews that there are a lot of disappointed shoppers that purchased this book because it does not tell you how to go around a corner with these designs. Seriously? Have we forgotten the 3 added stitch rule for corners on any project. Maybe those that are complaining about this, do not know this very basic rule of crochet? I have already used one of the patterns in this book to finish off a blanket and the 3 added stitches in the corner came off without a hitch. I was able to make it around the corner and it looks great. For those that need around the corner instructions, please do look up some stitch guides online that go into detail about crocheting around the corner. Once you get that basic rule down, these all will go around the corner flawlessly. (either 3 stitches in the same space, or 3 chains, or 5 stitches in the same space are the most common ways to go around a corner and stretch any pattern).OK, enough with the crochet lesson... I got distracted, lol... Anyhoo.... This is a great book and I can't wait to start taking thread to the edges of our linens using this book along with a plethora of borders for dress bottoms, sleeve cuffs, and on and on.. So many designs to choose from and even inspiration to switch them up a little and make some of your own.

Schapper's crochet books are some of my favorites. I only wish that she knitted, too. This is an awesome library that's useful for everything from tea towels to afghans, or even solitary pieces like cuffs. The photos aren't perfect but they're more than legible and done in clear and crisp white cotton. I love that she uses both a chart and a description for the edges because when one is hard to understand, the other usually isn't.

The book's content and illustrations are excellent, but when it arrived from the secondary market it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. I am happy to have the book, so I will air it out on the porch for weeks to see if the ash tray order goes away.

Crochet Borders
This book is EVERYTHING I wanted. There are so many designs to try, the instructions are clear & the pictures are excellent. I have used the patterns on clothing, towels and shades. I have used these items for gifts and they are always appreciated. People always are shocked that I made the lace myself. I think a handmade gift has more meaning. I have not decided which pattern I like best, but I sure am enjoying trying as many as I can!

pictures are big
The pictures are big (go across the whole page) you can count the stiches. You can just about use only the pictures to crochet. This is going to make it easier to change the pattern some by adding or deleting rows, even putting another pattern or two together if you need it wider. Large drawn pictures of basic stitches so you can plainly see how they are worked.

Excellent reference book
All the possible border stitches in crochet clearly illustrated and explained in both text and symbol form. The terminology is US names but these are easily converted, using the table given at the back of the book, if you are used to using UK names. There are no patterns in this book but ideas for using the designs are given together with instuctions on joining borders to garments and other items, and how to adapt to other projects.

Lovely
I've only flicked through it since I got it, and haven't used it yet, but it looks lovely and I think I will use it a lot.

10 Sternchen!!!
In 2 Worte zusammengefasst: totale Begeisterung!!!
