Great adventure
This is one of my favorite adventure movies. It is packed with plenty of action, cool special effects, as well as just the right amount of humor. It is a tale about a man who trains a gorilla to speak using sign language. The two then join up with an interesting assortment of other characters as they go on safari in Africa both to return the gorilla to the wild, and find a lost diamond mine. The movie is fast paced with a nice soundtrack.Ernie Hudson, of Ghost Busters fame, is terrific as the safari guide Monroe. His character is always cool, calm, and collected. He obviously had a lot of fun during the filming. Tim Curry, as the explorer Herkermer Homolka, is a delight to watch. Dylan Walsh, playing the gorilla's handler, is very believable in the role. Laura Linney, playing a representative of a large company going after the diamonds, does a good job of acting except when she has interactions with the head of the company, played by Joe Baker. When they get together it's like 2 middle schoolers fighting. However, their screen time together is very limited. Spoiler alert: the main gorilla in the movie, named Amy, is a person dressed in a gorilla costume. At first glance she appears a bit different than a real gorilla. However, after watching her for a few minutes I quickly forget about the differences and simply enjoy the story. The blu ray transfer was very well done. Both the sound and picture quality are very good.

Congo.....My Guilty Pleasure Movie
"Congo" has always been a guilty pleasure movie for me to watch. It doesn't follow the book exactly but it is a fun movie to watch.

An underrated adventure classic
If you love adventure movies this truly is a great one, worthy of recognition... but it does have some rough edges you need to look past to appreciate it. It's really such a great story with a unique spin on the jungle adventure. Great plot with some unique characters, all with different motives, converging on the same expedition into the dark heart of Africa. A great sound track, great scenery. At times it feels like it could really be one of the greats, but then there's just times it just gives off some awkward SciFi original vibes. And it had a bunch of solid actors. If you think about it seems like the director sucked and struggled to do it justice. And I think that's primarily why this movie is so underappreciated. It's got all the necessary ingredients, it's just a bit off in execution at times. But if you can look past the rough spots you'll be in for a really great movie.

In my opinion brilliant.
I have owned this movies since it was first released on DVD. If I remember it got in my opinion an un-deserved pasting. The story regarding a talking gorilla and a lost diamond mine, oh yes and an erupting volcano was in my mind a brilliant adventure movie that keeps my interest from start to finish. I have lost count of the number of times I watched it on a good quality DVD I have just watched it on a much better quality Blu-ray disc. I consider this transfer to be well worth the money I paid for it. By the way it was from an original novel by Michael Crichton, what more could you ask for.

The Adventurers of Congo. (Blu-ray)
A little jungle adventure film with a touch of fantasy (King Solomon's Diamond Mines). All produced/directed by Spielberg associates. So, a job well done, with comfortable means, and a competent technical team (Winston Studio). Adapted from a more technical novel by Michael Crichton.Too bad the Blu-ray doesn't offer The Making Of; especially when we know that in the era of VHS, we offered this Making of Congo for rental of the film.Otherwise, a good show, which was underestimated, because it is more difficult to depict credible gorillas than to show approximate dinosaurs. And there are no big star actors in the credits, but good credible actors.Audio: English 5.1, French 5.1 & Spanish 2.0
