These work great in shoes or gloves!!
I don't go out in <20 degree winter temps without these warmers in my shoes or gloves!! They last a long time, too! ALSO-- I just found an old box that I had here that had expired in 2015 (7 years ago!) and they STILL WORK!!! (even though they do take a bit longer to heat up and aren't as "hot" as my new ones... just warm. But I can still use them when I only need a little bit of warmth while running on a chilly day. This brand is the best!!

We buy them by the box
We carry these in all our vehicles during cool/cold times of the year. If you find yourself "out on the road" with a breakdown during winter you will understand why. Also I discovered a very unusual application. We went to a funeral one winter day--and at the grave site the wind was bitterly cold. We stuffed these into our pockets and beneath our hats and were warm. Everyone else was shacking in the cold. So carry extras for them!.Be aware these toe and foot warmers are the way to go and not the hand warmer versions!. The toe and foot warmers are designed to work in the low oxygen environment of shoes and boots. That means in an oxygen rich environment, like your pocket or in your gloves, they will heat up quickly. Last point. Keep them away from little children since direct contact with the skin can cause pain. However, also be aware little people loose heat rapidly due to their high surface to volume ratio. That means the little ones are far more at risk from chilling than adults. Fact, baby cloth are designed to be attractive not warm.

conditions dictate success
Another reviewer states that there is no heat. They claim that they left one exposed for 30 minutes and then got 90F. That makes it sound like it took a half hour to start getting warm. That is absolutely not the case. I just put a pair in my bike shoes and the heat started within less than a minute. Yesterday I rode in the mid 30's F. for 3 hours with nice warm toes, then had them in my slippers for another few hours and they never lost heat. I had to take them out eventually because they were getting too hot in the wool lining.I often do a 2 hour bike ride, then wrap them in a sandwich bag as tight as possible, and they will re-warm the next morning for another 2 hour ride. If the temperature out is below about 15 to 20F then I find it necessary to use 2 in each shoe. If you don't want to gamble 30+ dollars on a box of them, buy a single pack at a store and try them. That's what I did, and I have been buying them here ever since.

Tips and Tricks
If you put these on your toes into shoes that have absolutely not airflow, they aren't going to work because they need oxygen to fuel the chemical reaction. Stop blaming your inability to understand basic chemistry on this product! If I'm around the house in slippers (and two pairs of wool socks) but can't seem to keep my feet warm or just need to break the chill, I bust a pair of these out. If you put nonporous tape (clear packing tape) over the top, it significantly slows the chemical reaction, along you to get just enough heat. They would normally get too much access to oxygen otherwise in just slippers. When I've broken the chill, I pull them off and put them in double zip lock bags and get three uses out of them.Whoever is complaining should have paid attention in high school chemistry.

I can hunt for 2 to 3 hours in a foot of snow without my feet getting cold.
I wear heavy socks, then i put one warmer on top of my toes and one under my toes, and my feet stay warm for hours even in deep snow. I love these!

don't last 6 hours
I like to use toe warmers when it gets really cold. These heat up quickly and definitely kept me warm. However, they didn't last anywhere near the 6-8 hours the product description claims. All the ones in my pack lasted 3 to 4 hours. That is usually enough for me, because I don't spend all day outside. But if you are looking for a product that will last for an entire outdoor work day (or ski day, etc) this is not for you. Taking your boots off in the bitter cold to replace a toe warmer after a few hours is not fun, so if you are looking for an all-day product, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. If you only need it for couple hours, go ahead and buy these. They work fine for that length of time.

Feet no, Hands yes
I bought two sets of these to take on a camping trip recently and the temps got down to the mid 30's. There were five of us and I gave a pair to everyone on the first night and after following the instructions none of us really felt anything.. it was pretty disappointing. On the 2nd night we decided to try using these in our gloves and they worked like a champ.. they got pretty warm and our hands felt great. Not really sure why we didn't get the same effect on our feet.

Not the best, not the worst
the heat was strong so don't put directly on skin. i read the other reviews saying it's not that hot so i put it directly on my skin, had to peel it off afterwards because it was burning. in conclusion I'm satisfied with the heat. the adhesive is strong, however, once you peel it off, it wont stay on. it seems like each packet has different length of time for you to start feeling the heat. the biggest problem i have is the duration. like other reviews stated, it doesn't stay hot for 8 hours, it's more like 2 1/2 hours, tops.
