Timeless Books
Having always been an Enid Blyton fan, I bought these for my daughter for us to read together. Some of the language needs explaining (they were written in the 40s I believe!)She loves them as much as I do.

Lessons still worth learning
Old school, in every sense, but peel away the 1940s vocabulary and class-obsessions, and you'll find some solid morality tales that still resonate with the woes of school children today: How to find a sense of self-worth, how to treat others, how to do the right thing, how to make friends and help others to help themselves... My 9-year-old daughter is transfixed. While the white house on the hill, with its cloistered community of girls in their cosy common rooms, may be far removed from reality in 2015 (well, for the majority at least), Blyton's tales of girls learning how to get along can be applied to any playground. Just be prepared to smile every time they earnestly say: ' Top hole!' 'Super!' and 'I say, you're an absolute brick!'.
