How far can it detect gold underground?

It will find gold nuggets in the 4" - 6" range, but the detector is optimized to locate jewelry, coins, etc. not nugget gold. It will find gold rings and coins in the 14 - 16" range, depending upon the soil conditions. Good detector.

Yes it will! The Equinox 800 has 2 gold programs built in the unit, Gold 1 & Gold 2 programs! There are some gold hunters that use these to find gold nuggets in old dry beds in Arizona. They have videos posted on YouTube. Great machine!
