Stop Motion Animation: How to Make & Share Creative Videos

Great, well-organized book for all ages. My 11 yo son is very into stop motion animation. He had a research paper for school to do on the subject. This book gave a nice overview of the history and techniques. It had a modern twist with the LEGO and YouTube uses. My sob got all his research as well as some practical techniques about how to do better work.

This was a gift for my 14 year old son. He is enjoying this book. Full of great tips, as well as, entertaining to read. Definitely glad I purchased it for him!

Its a great book very informational I highly recommend this book for any beginners stop motion animators. It teaches you about soft wares different types of cameras and how to set up and build sets and characters. I highly advise this book. Anything and everything about stop motion animation is in this book!!!!

Good basic book. This book has about 160 pages of actual content (not counting contents and index, etc).To start remember this was written in 2013 so it is starting to age just slightly, I think most of this will be useful for years to come, but some parts about technology are starting to show their age.This book is like a quick super basic introduction to many forms of stop motion. It touches on claymation, brick flicks (legos), 2d clay animation, chalkboard/whiteboard animation, puppets, post-its, paper puppets, and a couple more forms, even slightly touching on action figures. Now some of these literally encompass a page or two of information. The basic layout of the book in the middle when it mentions all these forms of stop motion is to have a couple pages explaining the technique and then another 2-6 pages of QR codes to watch a film shot in that style (one film encompasses 2 pages of information/illustrations). So, it gets a bit pointless and feels like a lot of filler when you read an entire page on the background story of the animator's life and reason for making the film and then get one or two sentences of advice followed by a QR code to go watch the video. I feel the book is not for someone that is too serious or experienced. Out of the 160 pages, about 10 are spent explaining on how to shoot a film with a smart phone, less than that is spent on DSLR, so you get the idea that this is more catered to someone wanting to just dabble in stop-mo. There are so few books about stop motion out there that I feel the author could have made this another 30-50 pages and gone way more into depth in so many parts and this would be such a great book for anyone. But as it is written, it is definitely for someone who just wants the most basic of information on the subject. On the plus, all this information is in one spot, want to know the basics of making a stop-mo puppet? It is here. Bare basics of brick-flicks? Here too. How to make a basic set-up and about the basics of lighting, also here. How claymation works? yep. If more stop motion books were available this would probably be a 3-3.5 star book to me, but I got to give credit to one of the only books about the subject I was able to find, even if it was super short.
