Really useful adapter
This does exactly what I need.I didn't have another port available for input on my soundbar other than an optical port. Since the PS5 doesn't have an optical output, I was able to plug my PS5's HDMI output to this to get both an HDMI and optical output, which then I can use the HDMI for my monitor and the optical for my soundbar.Bonus on top of this is the 3.5 mm jack. You can use this to plug it into your PC's audio input line to get the PS5's audio THROUGH the PC. This helps if you want to, say, chat on discord on PC while still having PS5 audio.Great device!

Roku connection
Roku output to input of this device. Output of this device to HDMI input of Yamaha reciever. HDMI Output of Yamaha reciever to very old DVI input TV with HDMI to DVI conversion cable. Analog audio output of this device to Zone 2 analog audio input of Yamaha reciever so I can listen to streaming audio in other rooms.Picture and surround sound quality to TV great. No change from direct Roku to TV connection (might even be a little better!). I am using the "ARC on" setting and the "5.1 CH setting.Analog audio split off from Roku HDMI works great for audio to speakers in other rooms. Speakers in other rooms are hard wired to the reciever by the way.1st day with the hook up but initial so far very impressed

worked with SNES Classic Mini & Dell DVI Monitor
My original goal was to take the HDMI out from a SNES Classic Mini, separate the audio and video, audio would go optical out to an external Sound Blaster E5, and the video would go to a Dell 22" DVI monitor. After purchasing a different device to do the same thing (and it failed miserably), this audio extractor does the job. It has no problem with converting the HDMI out to a DVI signal with a passive HDMI->DVI converter.Sometimes I have trouble with the Audio not working - the fix has been to ultimately unplug the power to the converter and the HDMI input connection simultaneously, wait 5 seconds, then connect the power first, then the HDMI cable. Other than that, it suits the need when I want to game, someone else is watching the TV in the living room, so I can go into my home office and enjoy myself there instead. :)

Not sure
TCl 6 series TV to Sonos Playbar. So I upgraded from a vizio soundbar surround sound using hdmi arc to a Sonos playbar surround sound. Issue is, the Sonos playbar only has optical, furthermore when adjusting volume you can’t see the the volume number on the tv anymore. All you see is the light on the Sonos playbar light up every time the volume is adjusted, also, only my direct tv remote works when adjusting volume. The TCL Roku remote does not work, I thought this device would fix all that and have my volume adjusting back to how I like it by plugging in the optical from the soundbar to the device and hdmi arc bac to the tv. Nope. Works the same with or without the device. It sure if it’s a Sonos issue or the device. Oh well.

ARC Disabled When HDMI In is Active
The optical port output signal is generated from the ARC capability of the "HDMI Out" connection IF there is no active HDMI device on "HDMI In". The optical port output signal is generated from the "HDMI In" if there is an active device on "HDMI In".Example HDMI connections: Chromecast -> TV <- Extractor <- Cable Box. In this example, when I set the TV source to be Chromecast the output of the optical port on the Extractor is NEVER the audio from the Chromecast. This is because the Cable Box has an always-active-HDMI output (even in standby). If I disconnect the Cable Box HDMI, then the audio from the Chromecast flows back through ARC and out the optical port.I am giving one star because this functionality is not disclosed by the seller.

Easy to set up and excellent picture quality.
Easy to set up and excellent picture quality. I connected it with speakers using the digital optical audio channel. It's a simple device for simple task and it works well.

works extremely will with multiple codecs
Bought this as my projector would not play sound on certain recorded movies, narrowing it down to those with AC3 Codec or those with >2 channel surround. using this box and stripping the sound from the HDMI allows my entire library to play audio regardless of the Codec or the surround mode (5.1, 6 etc. all play perfect with no lag into my theatre amp). there are a couple different settings you may need to flip on or off depending on the surround or you will get static, but that is easy enough to figure out. very handy unit if you have a large movie library recorded from different sources and in different formats.

converter for the blind
I use this converter with my amazon fire stick tv instead of having to have an actual tv. So I plugged my firestick to the converter and connect some audio speakers to the other end of the converter. The converter allows me access to everything that the firestick has on it. I use voice view on the firestick and listen away. This would also work for apple tv too. There is no off button for either the fire stick or the converter to turn off the sound at night. But, if you have audio speakers, just switch off the sound at night. You can do the same with bluetooth speakers however, if you are blind, you will have to have sighted assistance to set up the speakers. But, wonce they are you are good to go. However, if they discconect, you will have to have sighted assistance again to get them connected.

Confusing, but compact.
The item worked well enough, but did not work as well as described.. was purchased to split ps4 HDMI/optical to send to tv and sound bar directly and it definitely did that, but it created bad lag between the TV and sound bar. There was already a small existing lag between the two, but this box just made it worse! If you’re looking for something to split the signal because arc isn’t supported or to simply split the two signals it works great, however i don’t know if the lag was a fluke with my case, or a common problem.

Apple TV only connects with 4K SDR, not HDR
My old AVR can't handle 4K video, and I purchased this product to send the video signal of my apple 4K tv to TV and audio to AVR via optical cable. The unit only passes 4K as SDR and not HDR. Both cables are certified 4K. When I connect Apple 4K tv directly to TV is connects as 4K HDR.

Not a reliable product.
This splitter only worked well for about two weeks. Soon after it began to drop the video signal randomly. Soon after that whenever I powered on my apple TV (source video) there would be no sync, and I would have to power cycle the splitter multiple times. After a week of this I gave up. I troubleshooted multiple times and the splitter is the weak link.
