Quick History Lesson
This book, by Scholastic Books, is a very nice, quick biography of Cixi: The Last Empress of China. Also, it gives a good overview of the political climate in China as the country was forced to open its doors to trade with a number of foreign countries. Many of China's costal cities were forced to become ports of trade, whether the Chinese government, under the Empress, wanted this or not. Cixi herself, was also forced to choose a path of destruction to remain in power when even her son failed to meet the challenge of becoming Emperor. If you like this book, then further biographic material is available in numerous other books at Amazon.byC.R. Cixi: Evil Empress of China? by Sean Stewart Price
Cixi: Evil Empress of China? (A Wicked History) by Sean Stewart Price, I think is geared for young teenagers or those who do not know too much about the history of China's rulers. Much of the information presented, although well done, I have knowledge of through other readings about her. However, I did enjoy this book.
