Install Tricky, Software and Cable Good, My Car Not Compatible
I've wanted a VAG-COM system for decades for my Audi cars but it has always been priced out of my range. This budget version got my attention quickly. The software has to be installed on a laptop computer because the computer has to be connected to a car. I struggled to get the VAG software installed on my Surface Pro and was never able to finish. My Dell XPS laptop went better. On first run, while connected to my Audi A8, the software required me to click the "Test" button and, after a successful test, click the "Save" button. That went well. I was excited.Unfortunately, when I tried to run scans I had to choose a vehicle from the list and the only A8 listed was D2, which covers model years 1994-2002. My A8 is 2013 (which is D4). The software couldn't run scans. I was impressed as the software methodically cycled through various channels trying to run the scans but it just didn't work. I tried to scan a few individual car systems but none could be scanned by the software.Information on the Amazon page showed the A8 as both compatible and not compatible without enough detail to know for certain. There is some detail for the A8L but that's not my model. I had to guess. Now I know (and you know!) the software is compatible with only very old A8s.It wouldn't be right to submit a poor review when this budget product actually did connect to my car and attempt to run scans. The only issue is that my car isn't compatible. In the end, I do have a working OBD2 cable that will work with other automotive software.
