A modern day retelling of "The Little Mermaid" and based on the novella by Alice Hoffmann, Aquamarine tells the story of two tween girls, Hayley and Claire, who are trying to enjoy their last summer together before the former has to move half way around the world. Thinking only a miracle could prevent the girls from seperating, they incidentally get one when a boisterous mermaid named Aquamarine washes up in a swimming pool. Aquamarine has only three days on land to prove to her father that love exists before she is forced to marry a merman she does not love. Thinking that the way to true love is a cute teenage boy, Hayley and Claire decide to try to set the young mermaid up with a cute and well meaning young life guard named Raymond, for if they do, Aquamarine will agree to give them a wish, which is all the girls need to keep them both together. Aquarmarine is a fun summer flick that is very of its time, but surprisingly still holds up today. It might not have the censorship that we are typically used to for modern day children's films (there's light swearing, brief mentions of sex, and puberty) but it is still a great film for children. The three teenage protagonists are well meaning and have a great repour together. In general it's very rare to find films that are centered around female freidnship, especially when it doesn't involve copious amounts of backstabbing or gossipping. I highly recommend this movie for girls ages 7 and up, and even some teens and adults might find enjoy this film as well.

Sassy. Fresh. Hilarious. Denim. Non-Sea Witches. Just a few words to describe a party I went to. But AquaMarine is, arguably, the best movie ever. If you were to argue with Mark Viduka, Australian Soccer Star. I watched this at a sleepover with young lady friends of mine to delightful applause from everyone, except for Lucy who went home sick. Full of Pizza! The acting snap, crackles n pops with over 4 Australian supporting actors. The uproarious Shaun Micallef blew our socks off at his brilliantly different take on a Weatherman. Hilarious? You bet, Johnny. Johnny Farnham, who was not in the movie sadly. I like JoJo. Says Jess. Oh, did I say JoJo? I meant Lindsay Lohan. Shes not in this movie Jess. Opps, my mistake. I liked the Mermaid. It reminded me of that movie where the mermaid wants to be "part of our world" and dreams of no longer living "under the sea" to find her true love on land. I think it was called The Shaggy Dog, either way, its lovely. Lovely and wet like all undersea adventures. Did you hear Fran got married? She sure did. 5 stars. 3 from Jess only because she thought Lindsay Lohan may have been in it. Hooray.

I loved this movie, very cute. Its about two best friends who will be separated when the ones mom takes a job in Australia. They meet a mermaid who wants to prove to her father that true love is real. They find out that if you help a mermaid, they can grant you one wish. They spend the movie becoming friends, teaching the mermaid (who has legs out of water so nobody knows she is a mermaid) and helping her to convince a local lifeguard to fall in love with her. Cute Friendship movie and great for mermaid fans!

Hard to recommend or discourage. It's right on the line. Works okay but has drawbacks too. That's my take.

We have seen this movie a thousand times so we bought it for a new teen friend of ours. She loved it! Highly recommend for any age but 8+ would probably appreciate it even more. Great movie for adults too!

Die drei Hauptdarstellerinnen Emma Roberts (Wild Child, Scream 4), Jojo Levesque (Die Chaoscamper und Sängerin) und Sara Paxton ( Plötzlich Verliebt, Shark Night) sind ein tolles Team und füllen ihre Rollen mit Leben aus und machen einen richtig guten Job. Aquamirian is about this Mermaid who is washed up on a the summer beach resort in a pool near by, by the fierce storm which made a massive mess. THese two girls were having a sleepover that night because it was a cuple of days until one of them were moving to Ausi in Sydney. One of the girls acciently fell in the messed up pool and started drowning and down there she saw a strange creature. A cool life saver (someone that the girls had a major crush on)saved her. That night the teenagers discovered that she was a mermaid. Now she had feet. Weird and strange!UH UH, I don't know! The girls work toegther, as this mermaid was tring to prove to her dad (the one who caused that storm)that love is really ture and pure. Aqua (the mermaid) chose Raymond as her lover. This movie is not at all babish, let me tell you, for when I saw this at the shop(HMV) I thought o this looks babish! But it's not at all. My friend saw this and she said it was brillant. Stephanie (my friend) persaided me to get it and watch it. I did and I loved it. It's cute and very funny. Sara Paxton is just the perfect movie star and so are her co-stars JoJo and Emma Roberts. Get it and enjoy it, you shall deffiently not be throwing this away.

Had to buy another copy as my OG one was so worn out from watching it so much as a kid lol. It was so great to watch it again. Aquamarine is so underrated it’s such a classic.
