I bought this for my dad. He's embarrassing to watch cast a bait out to sea. This has easily helped him gain a good 30/50 yards on his already shameful cast 😄

My best fishing purchase yet
This is without doubt the best spur of the moment purchase I have made for fishing yet. I attached this to my 15ft beach caster and after a few practice casts was getting noticeably further. 20-30 ft further if not further than that, despite my scepticism.Took a different rod out yesterday, having dropped and damaged my go to rod, for a session with a friend (whom I recommended to buy one of these, and he also loves it). I forgot to switch the ‘cannon’ trigger over and sliced my finger on my first cast (either I cut easily on that finger or it’s something to do with how I cast). That put a dampener on the day and my casts were noticeably shorter than what I’m used to (once I’d wrapped my finger in tape). Needless to say the first thing I did once home was take the ‘cannon’ off the old rod and attach it to the other.Despite being mostly made of plastic it hasn’t failed or let me down after many sessions. Can’t recommend this enough

Greatest and Simplest Fishing Invention... Ever !!!... probably.
Have you have ever struggled to cast a fixed spool reel whilst beach casting in the wind or in the dark, with wet and cold fingers? Ended up with a cut or sore fore finger after one or many casts? Are the casts inconsistent and the distance sometimes not as long as you wanted? If Yes to any or all of those ... then the 'Cannon' will solves all of that. To fit it place the 'Cannon' on the rod blank as close to as level with the bailarm as possible. Simply tape it securely in place (on top of the reel seating if necessary). Nothing fancy need... just duct tape or electrical tape. Job done !!! When you are ready to cast just feed the line from the spool around the capstan of the 'Cannon' and hold the trigger device in. Release the bailarm. Remember to ensure that the line is tight between spool and the 'Cannon'.... and.... as you cast, release the trigger at the same time you would have done previously. Keep the cast smooth. Da dah !!! NO pain and lots of gain !!! Now you have done it once you will have the confidence to let it rip... like you have never done it before. I promise that you will have a beaming smile on your face as that baby flies further than ever... with ease... consistently! It is likely to add 50 yards or more to your cast which gives the option to cast long without losing expensive lugworm or peeler crab wasted in bad casting. I have been fishing for 50 years and it has revitalised my fishing as even my stiff old back can launch this thing easily. PS. I dont work for Breakaway but if they want to send me a freebie I wont complain lol !!!

Finger saver, a brilliant device.
Having sustained a deep index finger laceration last week casting a 150g savage gear pike lure at the end of the day fishing. I did a little research and stumbled upon this gadget. I took a gamble, ordered one and it arrived next day.First impressions: Robust and well made. Small instruction card enclosed, very small text.I attached it to the rod as instructed, however I used 2 snap ties instead of tape.Put on a 200g Dennett Bobcat Tailer with hooks removed, as I was on grass, 50 lb braid as mainline and within 3 casts was easily hitting 40 meters. Painlessly with bandaged finger. I had genuinely thought the first thing that was going to happen was the crack of snapping braid. The rod was considerably underweight for the lure so I didn't really hammer the lure out there.I found that 1 loop around the vertical pin was fine, instructions state more, set drag to maximum, ie turn it up to "11".You just let go of the trigger at the point of line release. Two of the kids wanted a go seeing the big lure, even a 6 year old could do 15 m immediately and that was more limited by the weight of the gear he was handling holding him back. The 8 year old had no trouble, previously the line would be to hard on their finger. It sits well back from the bail arm, so if you are not using it it will not get in the way.Aesthetically its barely noticeable. With this there is no need for a finger-stall or glove. It is effortless to use, I will be ordering several more.

Make sure it will fit your rod
The Breakaway Cannon is easily fitted with insulation tape and when working properly it makes casting very easy. I have tried it on two rods. One rod has a sliding reel reel seat and it was difficult to fit the cannon near enough to the reel. The result was that as I set myself to cast the line often just fell off the cannon as the angle was too shallow to hold it in place. The other rod has a fixed reel seat so I could fit the cannon directly under the reel. It worked perfectly. But I did not notice any improvement in my distance casting, which is what I was hoping for. Greater consistency, but not noticeably longer casts. If you want to improve your casting then I suggest it is far better to find a field and practice or better still get advice from an experienced angler.I soon gave up on the cannon but I have kept it. If I take someone fishing who has never cast before I think that is where it will come in handy.

Great bit of kit
Great bit of kit. I secured mine with four cable ties and it has made casting pain-free and effortless. If you don't want to screw the drag down tight for each cast, simply wind three turns of the leader around the capstan before engaging the lever. Highly recommended for distance casting with a fixed spool reel and braid.
