Easy to use and dispatch all manner of ‘guests’
I didn’t actually rate this for spiders. Certainly not the large ones which plague me every August. But I thought it might work for wasps, which start invading the living room round about this time of year. Just tried it out on my 1st invader. The instructions say to use while wasp in hovering from a little distance away. In the end, I had to wait for it to be on the glass of the patio door. The vacuum power is pretty weak so after several seconds with nothing happening I ended up having to place the end of the tube over it, pressed to the glass, and then it got sucked in. So not as efficient or simple to use as the manufacturers claim but still better than trying to shepherd it out of the door with a cushion! Win win. Especially as the wasp survives. So value for money, regardless.OK, so been using this for a few days now and have to revise my rating. I’ve discovered it’s excellent for picking up small to medium spiders in awkward nooks & crannies, where the traditional spider catcher is pretty useless. So big positive there. I had a problem with it dying on me but this turned out to be a loose connection, so easily fixed. I’ve actually started turning to this first as it’s so easy to use and the cap on the end means there is zero chance of anything escaping before you’re ready. Which has always been an anxiety with the traditional catcher. And it’s very gentle. I actually just used it to catch and release a small butterfly. Was concerned it might damage it but nope. So really impressed. Making life so much easier.

I'm really glad to have it here
Whilst I agree with other reviewers who say they wish it had a stronger battery, I have to say that so far I'm so glad I have it here! We bought a new build house, built on the site of an old farm, and we get so many spiders! This spider vac easily sucks up what I call mid-size spiders, tiny spiders, woodlice, and other similar sized bugs. If you're slow enough approaching it also gets medium flies. Though not fruit flies, because as we all know they simply disappear into thin air and appear in a completely different room when you try to catch those ones!Unfortunately (or fortunately?!) we've not noticed any of the bigger house spiders since getting the spider vac, it's like they know to stay hidden or they'll get sucked up. So I can't comment on how good the vac is on those, not crane flies (though as they are very thin looking I imagine it would work on those), and we don't bother attempting to catch the big house flies, we just continue to shoo them out.The downside is that it can be hard to get any insects back out once you've caught them. Spiders seem like they're trying to stay in, and you have to be quite persistent with the little shakes of the vac, or take apart the tubes at the joint in which the spider is closest. Yes, that means being your hands a little closer to the spider, but it's the quickest and easiest way if they are refusing to be shook out. And rather than that bring it back in.With regards to the length of it, other reviewers say they wish it was longer. Yes, that would be nice if the vac was more powerful. But as it stands I'm still further away from a spider using this vac, than if I was to attempt to put a cup over it. So that's fine for me.One thing I do completely agree with, and wish was an option, is how good it would be to have a reverse button, so that once you've caught a bug you can then blow it out. That would absolutely be so much better, and I'd happily pay extra for that function. That all being said, I would not be without it now. I feel much safer knowing it's here and can suck up the majority of beasts. My whole family is happy using it. And we'll likely but another 1 or 2 more to have around the house.

Excellent machine for the insect averse
When both parts of tubing are used the catcher is of a good length and can be used for those hard-to-reach places. Nothing has escaped back out of the tube, and it is easy to shake your prey out having first removed the plastic end.The only negative is that the suction is incredibly powerful, so you have to be careful not to harm the beasties - basically hit the switch immediately it sucks up its victim! Also, remember to hold the middle tube when removing the end, otherwise you end up pulling too much off.

Meh
Love the idea, nicely constructed but the suction is weaker than expected

Best used by people who aren't terrified of spiders
Bought this for one of my teenagers who is terrified of spiders, and safe to say they can't use this - they need someone else to since the spider gets closer to the person wielding the spider vacuum. Sadly it got broken after spider season (it was left on the floor of another teenager's bedroom!) But I will be buying another one later this year.

It works!
Works especially well on big spiders for some reason! This device has been a life-saver this year. It has taken the stress out of discovering spiders in the house. I call my son to remove a spider and there's no hesitation - I think he likes using this device which is great for me because I'm an absolute coward.
