A lot of cable reels are plastic in construction which while won’t suffer from corrosion I have found don’t last and become brittle. This item has a cable long enough for home use with four sockets and power switch. The reel itself is metal of a reasonable gauge/thickness without being heavy to more around. Although expensive, for the material and length of cable when compared to other offerings is in fact good value. My only criticism would be the reel handle could be a little longer.

The reel is as described, 40 metres, or even possibly a bit more, as it seemed to go on forever when I unwound to check it so I'm happy with that. The sides of the reel are metal, which I prefer, but they had been deformed by overzealous or rough handling by Hermes/Evri or whatever they call themselves this week on its journey which was obvious by the very poor state of the outer cardboard box - I remedied this with a rubber mallet. One thing of note...the power on LED is off when the on/off switch on the reel is turned off even with the reel plugged in and live but comes on when the reel switch is turned on and I would have preferred it to be on continuously when the reel is plugged in and connected to mains voltage. The plug is a bit plasticky and I may change it for a better one eventually. The cable is not too springy and appears to be of an adequate spec for a maximum 13 amp load. Reeling out and in is a breeze - you just need to use a bit of common sense utilising hands and feet combined. Overall it seems good quality and should last for some time with a little care.

Where to start, the unit is robust, easy to use, the glide strip is useful and a real help when letting out or rolling in the flex / cable, longevity, looks really likely as the apprentices have used it,it still is in good shape, a few scratches withstanding, so enough said, The main issue is the size of the conductor, as it is what propogates the electrical power, it's high gauge compared to other units, a definite consideration for extension cables, if it's smaller gauge I have seen 0.75 mm2 which heats up when 2k or above, alot of manufacturers hide this fact, so it's comparing apples and pears with the cost of a unit, thinking it's like for like, I have a masterplug 45 metre unit, this one is better, than masterplug, it's a black cable, which blends into the worksite so can get caught or tripped on, also it can easily look like other extension lead runs, this unit is solid, good design and easy to spot, Buy with confidence,

Excellent length, easy to unwind and rewind. I like the wire guide on the front which aids the rewinding. It is quite heavy, so not a good choice unless the length is absolutely necessary. Safety feature of cut out button and on/off switch

The electric cable worked well. Could stretch from the back of the house to the front with no shortness. Great for mowing the lawn.

I bought this cable reel as I work trade so needed a durable cable reel and bought this for its metal construction and drum. Unfortunately there’s nothing good or useful about this cable reel, the cable is very weak and it gets cut and damaged so easily, and then there’s the metal drum and the frame construction which is where things get even worse. The drum isn’t attached to the frame so it falls off very easily, and the metal drum is just some cheap metal that dents and bends easily, especially since the drum always falls off when I lift it! It was damaged from day one as a result of all this and I find it difficult to work with, not convenient like I had hoped when I bought it. It’s not easy to rewind since the drum falls off and also when pulling it out if the ground tilts slightly it’ll also just roll off. It’s a flimsy material and there’s nothing premium about it.

Good quality and robust. Can get cheaper ones but everything here is well made so worth it for long term use. The cable is thick and strong and the buttons and handle very well made. If you want one for a decade or more to last this is worth splashing out on.
