In The Flesh - Live

Great value CD/DVD set
As always a brilliant live show from Roger Waters on two CD's and a DVD of the performance too! Quality sound on both formats with some classic Floyd songs ('Mother' being my personal favourite) and few of his solo songs throughout. If you like Roger Waters' work or just a Pink Floyd fan in general then this a must have. This is available as a separate two CD set or a single DVD. This three disc set is easily the best value though - recommended.

A fine live album of mainly Floyd classic songs
I have always been disappointed with Floyd's main post-Waters live album "Pulse". It's very slick and professional but feels soulless and sterile to me.I tried this because I'd been told it is better than Pulse. I agree. If I was allowed half stars, I'd probably pitch it at 4.5 but I've rounded up.The set list is excellent. I know Pulse has all of DSOTM and it was probably very impressive to see them perform it in concert, but if I want to listen to Dark Side in it's entirety, I'll play the studio album. Besides the definitive version live will come from the 1974 Wembley version included with a reissue of the studio album. In The Flesh has a great balance of tracks from the last five Waters led Floyd albums (i.e. the real Pink Floyd) along with a few solo songs. They are generally very well done and not as slavush copies of the originals. Three guitarists stand in for Dave Gilmour. Overall I thought they did a good job, influenced by the original solos and leads but not imitations. The but is that I'd still prefer Gilmour to improvise. The concepts, lyrics and basic tines may have mainly cone from Waters but Gilmour's guitar playing is so distinctive in its elegant style.I guess I'm saying that Waters plus Gilmour would beat either leading bands without the other. If you're a Floyd fan who has tended to stay loyal to the brand rather than investigate the solo work of their former leader, this is highly recommended for you to hear. Whether you love it like I do will depend on how much you're prepared to accept a substitute for Gilmour.

Roger during his Richard Gere phase...
I have been a Floyd fan for 25 years or so and have always tried to avoid the Roger Waters vs David Gilmour debate although reading through the sleeve notes here, you can tell that Roger was still obviously a bit upset with "the other band", to use his words!Anyway, take Rog's comments with a pinch of salt and enjoy the DVD. It also comes with a double CD, or is it the other way round? Some diverse Floyd material, some nice new arrangements of old pieces and the usual smattering of great musos. Lack of sax solo on "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is initially a disappointment but it's definitely a grower.Don't expect to compare with Pulse, released by "the other band" a few years earlier. Roger's "In the Flesh" show lacks the visual spectacle but it is still highly enjoyable. As you would expect, it is quite Americanised. I also tend to skip Roger's solo material...The stereo mix is nice and clear on both the DVD and CD. I can't comment on the 5.1 mix.

A superb album / concert
This is probably the best concert / album I've seen / heard in my 73 years. The musicians are brilliant with the added joy of them enjoying what they play. 5 * to Roger Waters for producing such great entertainment - I'm sorry this has passed me by for the last 20 years. SUPERB !

AA great package of both the double CD and a live ...
AA great package of both the double CD and a live DVD combination. If you are working the music is great to work along to but better to watch this amazing show. A more stripped down show from Waters and company and what a fulfilling company they are too. From the full blown show of the wall this is a much more intimate affair if that is possible in the Pasadena rosebowl. The sleeve notes are particularly interesting as for the tracks chosen as he did not want to just record a greatest hits type show. So well done to the man the group and all that took part in this. Well worth the money.
