Good, compact line.
Good build quality although the screws supplied weren’t up to much. The line locks of easily and so far hasn’t stretched at all.

This does its job fine. Always keep a spare in.

It's good but does slacken pretty easily
It was easy to install and use, but I wouldn't buy it again... I only use about half of the total length available as my garden isn't huge and it does slacken pretty quickly as soon as you put something a bit heavy on. I would kind of expect that if you used the full length but I thought it would be okay when only using half of it. It does the job well but it is annoying how easily it can become loose.

Neat, sturdy and effective
A replacement for an earlier version of the same product that expired after about ten years of regular use - the retracting mechanism made a loud 'twang' and retracted no more! This model which unfortunately doesn't have the same fixing hole pattern was relatively simple to attach to the house wall in my back garden and the line is easily long enough to reach the other end about 25 feet away (that'd be about 8 metres in new money). I considered the provided screws to be fit for purpose so unlike others I've used them and it all looks and feels properly secure. I also like the way the housing (for the rather natty red washing line) folds back to lie neatly against the wall. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend it without hesitation; it's a well known brand and whilst a little more expensive than other makes of unknown manufacture, I'm confident that I won't find my shirts lying in the mud the next time I put out a wash on a windy day!UPDATE 01/24 - getting on for five years down the line (geddit!) I'm happy to report that all is still well with the washing line. The only very minor issue is that that when not in use, a small length of the line is exposed (as I keep a few pegs clipped on for instant use) - this has faded from a rather attractive red to a less interesting white; the rest of the line is unchanged.Still very pleased with my purchase, money well spent.

Almost lasted 3 years!
It’s literally just failed tonight. Bought in August 2022. The plastic locking pins that you wrap the line around have snapped off. Hollow plastic which could be improved upon if you ever read reviews at Vileda. Three stars as it not used every day and would have expected a bit life out of the brand leader. Will be looking for something similar as I like the fact you can retract these lines out of sight. Hope this helps.

Don't use supplied fixing screws!
Bought 2 of these and now on my third.Once fitted I tend to leave the line-cord attached to a pole , via a pulley to adjust tension, and thus it never gets rolled back into the carrier. If I had to unreel and reel this often I'd probably not choose to recommend this as the rare occasions I need to reel this back it, how to put it, needs persuasion as it's not a strong reel action. The cord is bright red but fades when exposed to sunlight to a clear plastic finish. I've never had the cord break but I'm on my third now as it's weakest feature is the plastic that sets line length. At the mechanism end there is a 'ball' of plastic that you loop the line around, this prevents the line from being pulled out from the reel and has to take the full washing load weight. This does the job reasonably well but after sun exposure it fails, cracking away from the reel and thus dropping the washing load.On average the line lasts about 2-3 years then fails so for an equivalent of £3 per year it's really a good buy. I'll keep buying replacements as it suits my set up and I can reuse the existing wall plug positions without having to move them (drill more wall holes) for a different device with different hole locations.I would not recommend using the supplied screws as they are a poor alloy and not strong steel screws, When I've tried to use the screws supplied they snap off when tightening into the wall plugs.
