Perfect for a BootCamp companion on my Mac
I was looking for a simple to use Windows interface to run Windows only programs like SAS (for statistics) and Microsoft Explorer, which for some reason, certain online sites require to display forms properly. This version of Windows fits the bill. I'm running it with no frills on the 32 GB partition (so I can read files when I am in the Mac environment). It does take up a good chunk of the drive, but I know Windows 7 would have never made it. Vista is familiar to those of us used to the older Windows 95/98/XP interface, and all of the software out there is still quite functional on Vista.

This $40 purchase saved me over $1600 by achieving essential backwards compatibility that 8 and 10 didn't have.
When XP made way for Vista, I had a bad time adjusting and hated the clunky new interface a lot. But we all had to put up with it, those lucky enough to be able to keep XP did so and avoided this one. It was 2015 and I bought a brand new machine with Win 8.1 on it and it was also a dedicated Win 8 machine with lots of bios lockdowns. However well it ran, there were now unsupported programs on my machine that I needed: they were my worktools. And by mid 2016 there still hadn't been any fixes. I would have to either buy an old machine to replace my new one or somehow buy new versions of my software for around $1600 or a monthly subscription that was like a car payment. the other way was to somehow circumvent the locked boot system and Win 8. So I went dual boot (it took me a whole week of evenings to get right and I had to research like a maniac) but I got myself free of the dedicated part of the machine and got Ubuntu 16 running very very well. This then showed me I could replace the system. However, once free, I needed to get Win Vista (this purchase) on, and this needed a total wipe. When windows Vista had gone on, got to download SP2 which was essential. AND, cheekily, many of the ASUS drivers worked for the LAN, Card Reader and USB ports despite there being no recognised compatibility. Needless to say, my old software is working beautifully again, it was a nightmare to achieve and I never would have thought I'd have been thrilled to see Vista, but I was...I'd saved some irreplaceable stuff and my $40 purchase saved me $1600 and really quite a lot more too with other wares. Vista is what it is, clunky and not very ductile. But it works, and reliably. The machine will not be connected to the internet. Updates are turned OFF. I will defend my Vista to the end!

almost 3yrs. left on the life-cycle of this item !!! ..
Items are as Decribed, ! " almost 3yrs. left on the life cycle of this item !!! " .., - BUT REMEMBER if u buy one, u'll still need both service packs 1 & 2 to make it right .., Many of these versions come with service pack 1 installed alredy so all u need to do afterwar installing it is update the software ie, etc. & then download the last sp if u need the 2nd one or both sps if u got a version didnt include any sps & then ur set to go.., i noticed many people on here who have bought the version w/o any service packs at all & they complain cuz it doesnt work right or the copy they got didnt include sp 1 & or 2 & they're right ! & its because they didnt pay attn. to the previous reviews by other buyers & or didnt pay attn. to the products' description before they bought it aswell.., & to the best of my knoledge - theres no guarantee that u'll get a service pack with every or any purchase of one of these items AND but each of those service packs are still downloadable from microsoft aswell as other places online - but if a person doesnt have the $ to pay for'em then they can to the site where the service pace are, download'em & then install from the download & then burn-off the download(s) to cd after downloading it & have them for future use/support AND if they cant find where to burn'em off from then i'm sure someone would point'em in the right direction to get a service pack(s) that they might need if they ask VS. complain cuz of no service packs ..

Better than expected
Windows Vista Business with SP1 Installed Vista Business edition using Boot Camp on a second drive of my MAC PRO. It performs very well, better than I expected. Probably because of the superior hardware of my MAC. Dual 3.0 ghz processors and 4GB RAM.Starting up this OS isn't as fast as the Leopard OS but is typical of Vista. All in all, I would recommend giving Vista a try. I am rating it four stars.

Amazon to the Rescue
After migrating two work stations from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Win 7, I decided to migrate my Sony notebook (bundled software) from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Win 7. After successfully doing so, I later found the migration left my Sony in an unsatisfactory state of functionality; I would be better off back with Vista. Since I had already done Disk Clean-up, I needed an authentic retail copy of Vista in order to use my recovery disks. I could no longer buy Vista Business from MS or the usual retail outlets such as Best Buy, Office Depot, or Fry's. Amazon was the only place I could find a new retail copy. Now I'm back in business with Vista Business and all the upgrades to the Windows OS, the Sony VGN notebook computer, and the full bundled software package. A lesson here is the Win 7 Upgrade Adviser isn't always the whole story but their caution about the irreversibility of Disk Clean-up needs to be taken to heart.

Windows Vista - Good Product
I'm not a windows hater, in fact, I quite liked and still like Windows Vista. It was always a transitional product and did bring extra functionality with Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer and Service Pack updates. The look and feel, essentially reskin waswell thought out and provided good functionality, the dashboard widgets are a nice touch. It did not alienate users. A user transitioning from windowsXP would still find their way around ok, without too much relearning, if you're a sys-admin or someone in charge of a family network, or upgrading for someone on Windows XP: either stay on XP get latest security service packs/frameworks, if the person is enthusiastic about new technology choose Windows7 or 8 or else Vista.
