Fantastic Charts - Huge easy to read/copy font
This books is only charts and amazing. The font is the same as the cover, you can copy them (to not ruin your book) and see the chart easily. I love all the flowing designs in this book. Great vertical and horizontal designs, many overall patterns. Great purchase.

I love my purchase!
I purchased this for myself to add to my knitting knowledge. It did not disappoint me. Great pattern ideas. I just haven’t gotten around to starting anything from this book. If you’re into knitting and learning more, I highly recommend this book.

Patterns are BIG
She's an amazing designer and I love her patterns. The book is neat, useful, but a lot of the patterns in it are very big, so you'd want a fine gauge, lots of stitches per inch to knit them and fit more than a few repeats of the designs. I wish there was more about how she chooses colors, she does talk about it, but not enough for me, on my own, to make things as beautiful as she does. I think I just think differently than her.

Loads of fun charts for knitting
Although I am fairly new to knitting, I have come to love colorwork. This book is full of wonderful charts. Some of them are large for all-over type patterns, and others are single images. I have already knit some of the border patterns. I know that I will use this book a lot as I become more familiar with combining Fair Isle knitting patterns to create sweaters. Something to look forward to!

Advanced but Excellent Reference
This is an amazing reference for an advanced knitter familiar with basic sweater construction and colorwork. The first 25ish pages cover a few potential colorwork layouts (allover patterns, horizontal bands, center panel, etc) but does not provide any in-depth instructions for specific patterns or the actual technique of two-color knitting. The bulk of the book is about 125 pages of crystal clear black and white charts that resemble those on the bottom half of the cover of the book (with slightly smaller squares). They range from basic to amazingly complex large repeat patterns. They are arranged by country of origin then a few random categories (birds and flowers, etc) at the end. The last few pages of the book is pure eye-candy. Gorgeous examples of colorwork sweaters that come directly from the charts included in the book.I highly recommend this to anyone who is ready to tackle a colorwork project. If you are not familiar with construction techniques, you'll also want a guide on construction of garments (any of Elizabeth Zimmermann's books would serve you well here) to accompany this reference.

I want you to buy this book.
This is the "New and Expanded Edition" and well worth the money. I've long admired Alice Starmore for her ability to provide her unique vision of gradient color, as well as the historical perspective on the garments she designs. This book is no exception. It's what you've come to expect, getting right down to designing patterned sweaters with motifs and panels, then moving through motifs from Scandanavia through the Balkans and the Middle East. And lastly you get a glimpse of her color vision complete with some of the photographs she's taken. If you've ever seen something and thought, "those colors would be amazing together," she'll show you how she chose a palette. We love Alice for her color and for the complicated artistry of her work. But don't be put off. This is essential Alice for your knitting library.
