Nicely built compact unit, seems to be of high quality. Only had it installed for a few weeks, so we will see how it performs when there is ever a need for an alert. The test alarm is sufficiently loud.

Simply a terrible decision. Brand new batteries last one to two months in it?
I rarely feel like I make a bad purchase decision on amazon. I read reviews well and have gotten used to knowing what to look for. That said, this product is simply terrible.Smoke detectors are plastic, right? Of course they are. But this one sets a new bar for how cheap plastic can feel. First impression out of the box when picking it up was that this felt and looked terribly cheap for a life saving device.It turns out the display, which was a major feature I wanted it for, only comes on when you press the test button then quickly goes back off. Pointless. A battery saving feature, perhaps? One would think..but read on.But it was easy to install and against my instinct I kept it. Pressing test after install resulted in a chirp and the display lit up. A few months later I happened to press the test button to find.....drumroll...nothing! Absolutely dead battery. Put a brand new, amazon branded 9v in it and went about my life assuming perhaps it just came with a battery as cheap as the unit felt. Fast forward less than one month..the unit starts making bizzare noises and the lights on the front are flickering. Pressing test does not stop it and it does not emit a test tone. The unit has drained this new battery in a month.This is dangerous and useless as a life safety device. It was simply a mistake to purchase. I was drawn in by the screen on the front that others lack. I got taken. It's too old to return now (6 mo) but can't ever be trusted to save a life. It has been thrown away. I re-purchased a unit with a 10 year permanent battery from a reputable brand for almost the same price here on Amazon that will arrive shortly.Do not buy. Inexcusable for a product meant to save lives
