Suppliers to the Confederacy Volume II: More British Imported Arms and Accoutrements (Suppliers to the Confederacy, 2)

Get the entire series, its an excellent source on material culture.
I really enjoyed reading this entire series, it helped me a great deal putting together my C.S. impression. Certainly you don't need them to put together a good impression, but they cover a lot of information in great depth. If your impression is heavy on using imported goods you won't find a better source than these and they're relatively inexpensive. They cover not only the British goods but the Austrian and French as well. These books pair nicely with Fred Adolphus' "Imported Confederate Uniforms of Peter Tait & Co., Limerick Ireland". I usually don't like saying something is a "must have" but these are pretty darn close. These can also help you when evaluating reproductions.

The illustrations are excellent, but small
My only criticism is I wish the format was larger, The illustrations are excellent, but small. I only wish the publisher produced the book in the same size as Ron Field's "Blue Jackets". Excellent information for the serious student of equipment imported from Britain by the Confederacy.

Lots of good color pictures showing seldom seen Confederate equipment
Well researched and informative book dealing with military items imported into the Confederacy from England. Lots of good color pictures showing seldom seen Confederate equipment. There is something in this book for every Civil War collector.

Why you should by this book and Vol I & Vol III
I'm a civil war reenactor, portraying the CS Marine Corps in Germany. This unit was often equiped with imported british gear. As this is not to present in the actual collections and suttlers it's hard to tell if a reproduction is good, or how it should look (custommade). This book(s) are great resources for a quality research. The pictures of the originals and their details give you every information, from the british vendor, over some importers , use in the CS units, even the owners and details of the original item (like interrior, material, stamps/marks, ....). After reading Vol I & II you will know a good reproduction from the needed details. There are also informations what should be with the item (like oilbottel with the ball pouche, or the different stuff for the Enfield muskets & rifles) also pictured as originals. This should be in the basic research bibliotheke of every reenactor. Can't wait for Vol IIISven Peters, Germany
