The Name Speaks For Itself!!!!
Ok let me start out by saying that I've never been a fan of bookshelf speakers. I've always looked at them being cheesy, poor quality, and sort a like one of a poor man's audio system component. I had a full-blown sound system back in the day and it was awesome. It kept being pushed to different rooms in the house because of more important uses of the space it took up. Then finally I sold it and purchased a Bose Wave Radio with a CD changer. It fit nice on an end table and it sound great! The only problem was I had about 100 vinyl albums stored in my basement and they have been there for over 35 years. So now I have a small space in my den .Well I'm not going to get into all the tech talk about these gems I just purchased. I got myself a used receiver, turntable and a powered subwoofer that I didn't need . These speakers ROCK! Great mid range, highs and great bass. Sorry to bore you with this review but ....Just buy these speakers from Rockville you'll love them... and START ROCKING!!!!!!

Superb quality for this price point
These sound much better than expected for the price.. Applying a lowpass filter and using a small subwoofer improved the sound dramatically.

Good speakers. Good price.
I bought these speakers basically because I wanted to use my old receiver (a Sony STRDH550) for a stereo radio, since it had lost the left surround channel and my new amp didn't support an outside antenna. I've been surprised at the sound quality...quite good. Of course, the bass is weaker than my home theater speakers which have 10" woofers and a sub, but other than that, I can sit in my 300 sq ft living room and unable to tell the difference between the Rockville speakers and my others (at low volume) as long as there isn't much bass going on. Of course, I can't turn the amp all the way up because the Rockvilles only handle about 50 watts RMS, but they're quite loud enough to fill the living room and the whole rest of my (smallish) house. Audiophiles might recommend other speakers, but these get the job done for me.

Great value and not black
I was originally attracted to these speakers because they are available in wood tone (not black). Why is virtually all hi-fi equipment black these days. I remember when I saw my first black receiver in about 1972. I think it was a Nakamichi. I thought it was kind of cool at the time. Since then virtually all equipment has migrated to black. I hate it. I don't like black at all. It is not even a color--it is an absence of color. I won't buy anything black now unless it is an insanely great unit or it is at an insanely great price. That said these turn out to be really nice. They look great (because they are not black). I don't have a super well trained ear, but they sound very good to me--definitely better than the Phillips speakers they are replacing. They are more efficient, too, but not super efficient. I'm using them as computer speakers with a Denon home theater receiver that I picked up for $20 at a thrift store. Is seems that most of my listening is on the computer these days, so I might as well have a good system hooked up to it. I also really like the rounded corners--nice touch. Be sure to get the version 2 model. The old ones are still being sold on Amazon. These have several tweaks like thicker MDF, bigger woofer magnet and improved tweeter voice coil. They are amazingly compact for a 6.5" speaker due to the acoustic suspension design. Even the grill is on MDF. It could be a bit fragile as it is so thin next to the woofer--handle with care. So happy to find speakers that are a good value. Oh, did I mention that they are not black?
