The SWAT Workout: The Elite Exercise Plan Inspired by the Officers of Special Weapons and Tactics Teams

Defines "Do What You Enjoy"
For those familiar with Stew Smith, it goes without saying that he delivers the best content for tactical fitness, and this book is no exception. The Police Academy and SWAT Candidate workouts provide a good foundation to improve work capacity, speed, and endurance, especially for people with beginner or intermediate levels of fitness. However, the crown jewel is the Active Duty SWAT Workout, which gives you the best blend of Stew's training methodology to improve tactical performance while giving you the hypertrophy you crave for in the "beach muscles" to look the part. If you are looking for a challenging, yet fun and effective, training plan, this is for you. For the best results, I recommend cycling the Active Duty SWAT workout with other cycles he uses throughout the seasons to keep training fresh and improve all of the elements of fitness as seen in Maximum Fitness, Tactical Fitness Over 40, and Tactical Strength.

Good workout, but know what you are getting into.
Really like certain aspects of the workout, but a few issues: After week four I was still having trouble passing the law enforcement test of pushups, situps, sprint, and run. I was in better shape for sure but it hadn't transferred over to the PT test like I had hoped. For example, you will do a lot of pushups in sets of 10 and 20, sometimes as many as 200 pushups in a day, but that didn't help like I thought when it came time to do 50 in a row after a sprint. So all those pushups taught my body to do a lot of pushups in spurts but not necessarily to do 50 in a row while somewhat out of breath.Second, I recommend stretching your upper body more than the book shows and perhaps creating some counter-exercises to the pushups. After five weeks of doing around 500 pushups a week my chest muscles (I learned this from a massage therapist) had tightened so much that I badly pulled my shoulder and by extension neck muscle to the point of pain.Third, this is not a complaint but only a warning to those wanting to follow this program: this program, as I did it, is about a 1-2 hour commitment everyday minimum. Not including cool down time or drive time to the track or gym. I do everything fast, so it is conceivable that I might take someone else about three hours a day. I am readying for law enforcement training so I am only working part time, but I am sure I could not do this program if I were working full time.I am enjoying the workout though, and it is superior than just guessing about what you should do to get in this kind of shape.

Good workouts, lacking in eating plans
The saying goes "six packs are made in the kitchen, not the gym." With that in mind, The SWAT workout has a ton of great workouts in it. It breaks down each exercise that you'll be doing, using pictures that illustrate the movements as well as tips on how to best execute it. Additionally, it has 3 levels of workouts, "Police Academy," "SWAT Candidate," and "Active Duty SWAT Officer." Each is engineered to best fit the level of fitness that you are currently at and is broken down by day so you know what exercises you need to complete each time you go to the gym. The first two programs are 6 weeks long and the last is around 12. You can repeat each program as long as you like. The only thing that I wished would have been included is an eating plan. There is an attempt at one towards the end, but the amount of food listed in there are far too few for the exertion that you will experience while completing one of the programs. I've found that I need to look else where for a plan that best suits the caloric intake needed to complete one of these programs safely and effectively, which isn't that big of a deal, it just would have been nice to have that included with the book.

SWAT WORKOUT
This is an excellent book. Clearly sets out programs that are easy to follow. This is not for the faint hearted or unfit - it expects an already high level of fitness! The only part missing is that some military / law enforcement sections do require swimming with full kit both distance and survival mode.Shift work plays havoc with any training program and this program demands a very high level of commitment, particularly when it comes to food intake.I believed I had a very high level of fitness to start with and was pleasantly surprised at the intensity of the work outs. I have improved in both aerobic capacity as well as muscle mass.I also found that having a personnal trainer(who is both supportive and encouraging) who understand this level of fitness, supervising the initial program workouts was both beneficial and ensured that the program was being followed correctly.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving!
Every time I open it I learn something new. There are 2 really good workout regimes that last a little over a month, and lots of other fun workout ideas introduced in depth such as Pyramid PT, Running plans, and a nice Shoulder Therapy routine. Not only that, there is a good section on safety and another on dieting. I haven't read any other books in the series(I'm tempted) but this alone is the doctrine of training!

Great way to break through a plateau
I bought this book a little over a month ago, and I must say that it is a great book. The workouts, while incorporating everything from weights to calisthenics, are different than most workout you will have seen before. The workouts require very little in the way of equipment, but do require you to show up every day ready to give 100%. These workouts are not for the weak at heart! I will definitely look into other titles/workouts by Stew Smith.

Good tool for law enforcement
This book has some decent training programs. Just keep in mind the workouts can be draining and time consuming so rest and recovery is essential. I have modified the program to fit my schedule and so far I'm pleased with the results.

Gutes Buch.
