High Quality Kombu Dashi no Moto (こんぶだしの素)
If you are looking for a vegetarian version of dashi, this is what you want. It's made out of kombu (seaweed/kelp) and has no fish (bonito) which is a traditional dashi ingredient. If your recipe calls for dashi and tare (mirin, sake, soy sauce, and sugar) you won't miss out on anything by using this over something like hondashi (which is made with bonito). Works well for making dishes like nikujaga and katsudon, and even as an ingredient in homemade tonkotsu broth. It's a staple in my kitchen that I always keep stocked for all my Japanese cooking needs. As an FYI, this is an authentic product, it is the exact same product you would find in a Japanese grocery store in Japan, so don't worry about this being some knock off for non-Japanese speaking folks that can't read the label.

MSG in a packet ...
I should have enlarged the picture with the ingredients and paid more attention. Is essentially a packet of MSG followed by some other seasoning.

Elevates every dish I make!
I absolutely LOVE this vegetarian dashi powder. It makes everything taste great. I use it in place of veggie broth in soups, pastas and rice based dishes.First of all, yes, it contains MSG which is naturally found in kelp. It is a myth that MSG is bad for you. Lots of foods found in nature contain MSG, so don't let that deter you! Buy it, and make your soups a 100% tastier.

Single use packets are a real convenience!
I don’t know why I can’t find this locally. Seems our Asian markets carry mostly Chinese and Korean products and very little Japanese. In any event the price is right as usual from Amazon. Not the strongest flavor but by the time I add miso, seaweed, scallions and tofu I end up with a great soup. The convenient single use packets are great - no measuring needed. I use one packet to 8 cups of water. Could be a tough stronger but I could always just use less water instead I suppose.
