ESV Thinline Bible (TruTone, Charcoal, Celtic Cross Design)

The ESV is an excellent modern thought/thought translation. This Bible has a fun cover. The print is clear etc. Overall, it serves its intended purpose. The dark on dark makes it somewhat difficult to see the design. But I'm sure with age it will blend out nicely.

I received this Bible for Christmas from my wife. I have read and studied from different versions of the Bible over the last 10 years including NIV, NLT, Message, and NASB. I used to always use the NIV for it is easy to read and is the most popular. The NLT I used for awhile, but it is not as accurate, but is very easy to read. The Message is just a paraphrase, not a translation of the Bible. This has been good at times for teaching kids, but not for studying. I then went to NASB for I like how it is a literal translation of the Bible and very accurate. I love this version and have used it mainly for the last 4 years, but our pastor recommended the ESV version. After looking at it and reading some from it, I love this version for it is accurate and literal like the NASB, but uses language that is easier to read than the NASB which is on the 11th grade reading level. I would recommend this for everyone: Non-Christians, new believers, or deep studiers of the Bible.In summary, I highly recommend the ESV version of the Bible and this Bible is good size to take with you or study from and looks great.If you have a iPhone or Blackberry, get the You Version App of the Bible. It's free and has many versions of the Bible.(Sidenote: If you get a NASB Bible make sure to get one by Zondervon because of higher quality than other publishers of the NASB)

As a seminary student, I have many Bible versions. But, I did not have a simple Bible without all of the study notes. That is what I love about this Bible. The soft leather binding is comfortable in the hand. It is thin and light-weight. Easy to carry with me. And no study notes throughout. There are a few maps and a good concordance in the back; but that is all. If you are looking for a Bible that has red-letter, and just the Bible text; this is the one for you.There are a few textual notes on the pages, but not huge blocks of commentaries or doctrinal ideas. This was what I needed for my oral boards coming up in December. It is easy to get distracted by the great study notes in other Bibles and miss the inspired word of God. I will say it again, I love this Bible.

If you wanted a review for the translation - you could read it for yourself online for free and make your own choice - an online review should be for the things you care about like binding, cover, text size, options and so forth, right?Bearing that in mind, this thinline is going to be the same as ALL the ESV thinlines, but with alternate covers.Binding and cover- Crossway does guarantee their binding, the bibles are stitched, but the cover is not leather or bonded. "Tru-tone" is code for "paper back." Zondervan calls their paperback bibles "Duo-Tone." It's a great look, feels great - but will react the same way all paperbacks react to folding, elements or water damage. It will last you, but just be careful and be aware. If you are buying real leather or bonded leather you'd know - cause the price would be a lot higher.I wanted a good thinline and I was glad I picked this up - it's thin! And I can't imagine the font being much bigger than it is. The paper isn't too thin and there is just enough packed into this bible to make it useful: Tables, weights, concordance and maps. Highly recommended. And like I said, if you want to know more about the translation - look it up and read the reviews from true theologians (not amazon reviewers).

Had for over a year now and couldn't be happier with it. This has become my everyday, carry with me everywhere Bible and it's held up quite nicely. No tears or noticeable wear and its been read consistently, thrown into backpacks and car trunks, been outside a lot, etc. The pages are thin, print is just the right size, looks great, functions great.The ESV is one of if not the best modern translation as it is faithful to the original manuscripts and also easy to read. Highly recommend this for daily reading.

This Bible is awesome for the price. I bought it used for about $10, and I couldn't be happier. Cover feels great, has words of Christ in red, a ribbon page marker, and excellent binding. It's an optimal size, as it is not too bulky, nor is it overly thin to the point of dimishing its ability to be read. Excellent Bible for the budget conscious.
