Hildegard of Bingen's Book of Divine Works: With Letters and Songs

A BOOK FOR ALL. THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CATHOLIC CHRISTIANITY AND THE EASTERN RELIGIONS. ALL MYSTICS DO THIS BECAUSE EVENTHOUGH THEY LIVE BY THE SOUL, THEY CANNOT YET DEPART FROM THEIR BODIES, EVENTHOUGH THEY WANT TO.IT WAS A WISE AND UNUSUAL DECISION BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (OF WHICH I AM A MEMBER) TO ALLOW ST. HILDEGARD TO WRITE HER VISIONS, CONSIDERING THAT SHE GOES OUT OF THE TRADITIONAL WAY OF TEACHING OF THE CHURCH, BUT THE MEANING IS THE SAME AS THE ONE CONTAINED IN THE BIBLE, EXCEPT THAT THEY ARE WRITTEN FOR THE SPIRITUALLY MATURE.THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOULD OPEN THE EYES OF THE SOULS OF CHRISTIANS BY CROSSING THE BRIDGE THAT COMMUNICATES THE WEST AND THE EAST. LET'S NOT FORGET THAT THE CHRIST MOVEMENT STARTED IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND TAUGHT ALL THE FOLLOWERS DURING THE FIRST CENTURIES TO BECOME MYSTICS AND CONNECT WITH GOD'S LIGHT THIS IS A VERY OLD BOOK WITH CURRENT WAYS OF INTERPRETATION. LOOK FOR THE MEANING BEYOND THE WORDS, JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD DO WITH THE SCRIPTURES, AND YOU WILL FIND THE SAME MESSAGE, BUT WRITTEN FOR MYSTICS, CLEARER BUT MORE PROFOUND, VERY MUCH LIKE JOHN'S GOSPEL AND EPISTLES. Her letters, plays, music, history, story reveal an extraordinary woman for her times. She was a visionary par excellence, a visionary psychic. Even more than that, she was a mystic and later was sainted for her contributions. Her talents gave her world health guidance and knowledge of spiritual revelations in her plays. One of her plays was about the devil. "And the devil laughed, honor to scorn. Nothing of God's was left untouched." That is well said. In her music she transcends the earthly plane. Those that celebrate the music have given her a status online and she continues to be well known to seekers of spiritual music. Music that simply comes from a heavenly source. Entrancing. Enchanting. Beautiful. Such harmonies must be from Heaven. A number of her songs are at the back of the book in the style she wrote them in Latin, with English translations. She was a force in the politics of her time. She was bold and urged King Frederic Barbarossa to shape up as he was in danger of losing his soul, if choosing to willfully do anything his heart desired without caution and thought. Check out her letters of compassion, teachings, admonitions, joy, knowledge and duty. She reminds us of the spiritual connections we need to keep refreshing due the pressure and troubles of everyday living. Her warnings of the Anti-Christ could apply to today's world. Edited by Matthew Fox, I recommend this book, keeping in mind it was written by a 12th century renaissance woman, mystic, nun and saint.

I KNOW MY BIBLE VERY WELL AND THESE BOOKS ARE CLARIFYING A LOT FOR ME AND ALSO TEACHING ME MANY NEW THINGS. IN A NUTSHELL I LOVE HER BOOKS AND REALLY ENJOY THE BIG PRINT BOOK OF "SPIRITUAL HEALING."

One of what i call a Christianomicon.. A Book Of Marvels like many various Necronomicons; xcept, the author is not a 'Madman' like Abdul AlHazred; but a Saint possessed by/or in contact w/Alien Forces or Praeter-Human-Intelligences. Her Book: Liber Scivias (Illuminated), would better illustrate this point. Like when Hildegard's receiving a vision being shown as tentacles reaching down from the Heavens! Not all Necronomicon's are evil. Mostly they are Archetypes of the Dreamplane & The Akashic Records; being xpressed by an overflow from the Unconscious & Subconscious Minds (which incidentally hold our closest ties 2 Aliens, what lies beneath the Seas, & Reptillian Consciousness). Other "Christianomicon's" would include: The Book of Enoch, The Codex Gigas, works by St.Cyprian, & Ethiopian Magic Scrolls ...ect. ad nauseum..

Wonderful book. I have just begun to read it. Good introduction.I read the Scivias (far more difficult). Totally love this book. You must try to see the illuminations in color and listen to the songs.By the way, she was canonized (declared a saint) by Pope Benedict XVI during his reign.

I found this in a book store in Minneapolis. An excellent edition, I purchased another copy on Amazon. Of primary interest is the collection of medieval music notation. Would have preferred a hardcover at this cost.

I purchased this book as a gift because my mother was very touched by the life of Hildegard. Though I did not read the book "cover to cover" the selections I read through provide some deep insight into the live of a devoted and faithful woman living in an age way before her time.

Such an awesome book!
