Nice and simple
I really like this nice and very easy to read pocket ENT tutor. I enjoyed reading it while traveling up and down to my work-place. Although small in size, but a very valuable packs of knowledge inside !!

Okay
I bought this after reading the Ophthalmology pocket Tutor and liking it. I must say this was rather disappointing and a bit too breif for my 2 week attachement. I would recommend the ENT edition from the colour illustrated series instead. That has lots more pictures and details and is much more comprehensive. Essential ENT (2 ed) is a similar price but is much more comprehensive, has more cases which are presented in a more thorough manner, and has a better explaination of the anatomy. Ended up borrowing those 2 books from the library and using them instead. It covers the core conditions but there's just too little in this book (and too few pictures) for you to read it and feel like you understand much at the end of it.

This is really useful to keep in your pocket whilst on ENT rotations
A handy little pocket guide for key ENT topics. This is really useful to keep in your pocket whilst on ENT rotations, for quickly being able to find key information in between seeing patients. A range of clinical information is covered from signs and symptoms through to management options. It represents good value for money and I would certainly recommend it to medical students and other healthcare students on an ENT attachment.

Overall a good book. This is a difficult topic to cover ...
Overall a good book. This is a difficult topic to cover as there are actually 3 systems instead of one. Hence, there is a lot of detail to cover but the book manages to do so. The book starts with an introduction to basic principles such as anatomy, physiology and the key clinical features and investigations of ENT medicine. It then deals with each anatomical area in turn, covering the main symptoms and pathology related to that area. While the information for the main clinical conditions are there, it feels very prescriptive and there doesn't appear to be much flow within the text, it feels like reading list after list. The clinical scenarios for each condition are well written but there is a lot of detail that might be not necessarily be needed. That being said, it is nice to have some context so there is a fine balance here.Overall, the information given within the text is good, just the structure might need a bit of refining and reorganisation. But the information is more than enough to pass exams in a topic that isn't particularly emphasised in the medical school curriculum.

This book has just got me (3rd year) through my ENT placement!
I am a 3rd year medical student who has recently used this book to get through a 1 week ENT placement. Having forgotten all of my ENT anatomy before the placement, I turned to this book to brush up on the anatomy basics as well as the common problems seen in ENT. ENT is one of those specialities that as a medical student it seems completely pointless buying a huge great ENT textbook from which to learn (unless you eventually want to specialise in ENT I guess!) So for specialities like this, the PocketTutor series is ideal. The series could maybe do with a more concise layout i.e. one disease profile per page or double page spread like in the Oxford handbooks, however I would argue that the content is more relevant and certainly its an easier read that the Oxford handbooks. The section on Paediatric ENT has given me a great deal of General Practice revision as all I seem to do on GP is look in kids ears, nose and throats - now I should know what I'm actually looking for, thanks to all the photographs of clinical signs in this book! In all seriousness, I would say this is a worthy spend of 12 quid and I'll be investing in other PocketTutor books for my upcoming placements in Orthopaedics, Dermatology and Ophthalmology.
